Summary

This established and growing retail organization is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join its Calgary-based finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with approximately three to four years of progressive experience who is ready to take on broader responsibilities and continue developing within a collaborative finance environment. The role combines hands-on accounting with financial reporting, reconciliations, analysis and process improvement, providing strong exposure across the finance function.

Working closely with the Controller and an experienced finance team, the Senior Accountant will support day-to-day accounting activities, month-end and year-end close processes, financial reporting and special projects. The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys digging into the details, improving how things are done and contributing beyond transactional accounting.

This position is based in Calgary and requires the successful candidate to work in the office five days per week.

Description

Work collaboratively with the Controller to prepare and post monthly journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger accounts.

Review and support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including a high volume of transactions.

Participate in full-cycle accounting and month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting.

Prepare and review account and bank reconciliations.

Support year-end closing activities and external reporting requirements.

Manage regulatory filings including GST, PST and WCB requirements.

Analyze financial results and prepare variance analysis as required.

Support inventory accounting and related reconciliations.

Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.





Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, workflows and system efficiencies.

Support financial reporting and analysis across the organization.

Participate in ad hoc analysis, special projects and other accounting initiatives as required.

Requirements

Minimum three years of progressive accounting experience.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field.

Strong understanding of accounting principles, general ledger accounting and financial reporting.

Experience with account reconciliations and month-end closing activities.

Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Comfortable working within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Retail accounting experience is considered a strong asset.

Experience with ERP or accounting systems required, with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred.

Progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset.
