Position Overview The successful candidate will apply a user-centered design approach to create intuitive, accessible, visually appealing, and effective digital experiences across web, mobile, and other interfaces. The Senior UX Designer will conduct end-to-end user research, translate research findings into actionable design solutions, facilitate design workshops, develop prototypes, and continuously test and refine experiences based on user feedback.

The role requires strong collaboration with business stakeholders, users, developers, QA specialists, and other project team members to ensure that design solutions align with business objectives, user needs, technical constraints, and applicable Ontario digital standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the end-to-end UX design process, from user research and discovery through design, prototyping, testing, and implementation support.
- Create effective, user-friendly, accessible, and visually appealing interfaces for web, mobile, and other digital platforms.
- Define and communicate UX strategies, product vision, design approaches, and interaction models.
- Plan and facilitate UX workshops, stakeholder alignment sessions, discovery sessions, and design reviews.
- Conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, usability testing, observation, and other research techniques.
- Manage the complete user research lifecycle, including participant recruitment, research planning, execution, analysis, and synthesis.
- Translate research findings into sitemaps, user flows, user journeys, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and other UX artifacts.
- Design and refine user interfaces based on user interaction, performance, usability, and business requirements.
- Rapidly prototype and test design concepts and iterate solutions based on user feedback and usability findings.
- Identify UX and interaction design problems and develop effective and elegant solutions.
- Make strategic UX and design decisions related to existing and new product functionality and features.




- Design experiences optimized for a broad range of devices, screen sizes, platforms, and interfaces.
- Gather and analyze user feedback to improve or configure existing interfaces.
- Facilitate the client's product vision through research, ideation, sketching, prototyping, and user testing.
- Collaborate with developers and technical teams to ensure designs are technically feasible and appropriately implemented.
- Maintain awareness of web development technologies and their limitations to ensure practical design solutions.
- Design digital experiences with consideration for accessibility, usability, and inclusive design principles.
- Work effectively with stakeholders who may have different requirements, priorities, approval processes, and perspectives.
- Prepare clear and comprehensive UX documentation, reports, assessments, design specifications, and recommendations.
- Manage competing priorities, meet project deadlines, and maintain effective client and stakeholder relationships.
- Support design activities throughout the product lifecycle, including implementation and continuous improvement.

Required Skills and Experience

UX / Design

- Proven experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer, Interaction Designer, Product Designer, or similar role, preferably involving web and mobile applications.
- Demonstrated ability to define and lead UX projects, design workshops, stakeholder alignment sessions, and discovery activities.
- Experience managing end-to-end user research, from participant recruitment through research synthesis.
- Strong proficiency with UX/UI design and prototyping tools.
- Hands-on experience with Figma, Canvas, or similar design tools.
- Experience developing:

- Interactive prototypes
- Sitemaps
- Experience conducting usability testing and iterating designs based on user feedback.
- Experience designing responsive and intuitive experiences across multiple devices and interfaces.
- Strong understanding of web development technologies, including their capabilities, limitations, and appropriate application in UX design.
- Experience identifying complex design problems and developing effective solutions.
- Experience making strategic UX decisions for core and emerging product functionality.
- Experience gathering and incorporating user feedback into existing interfaces and digital products.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Mandatory / Must-Have Qualifications

1. GUI/UX Design based on user interaction and performance.
2. Professional experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer, Interaction Designer, or similar, with web and mobile application design experience.
3. Ability to lead UX projects, workshops, discovery sessions, and stakeholder alignment activities.
4. Experience managing end-to-end user research, including recruitment, research execution, analysis, and synthesis.
5. Strong proficiency with UX design and prototyping tools.
6. Hands-on experience with Figma, Canvas, or comparable tools.
7. Experience creating wireframes, user flows, user journeys, mockups, prototypes, and related UX deliverables.
8. Ability to work with the Ontario Design System.
9. Knowledge of the Ontario Digital Service Standard.
10. Robust communication, stakeholder management, collaboration, and documentation skills.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

- Previous Ontario Public Service (OPS) or public-sector experience.
- Experience with accessibility testing.
- Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Experience designing within complex or legacy technology environments.
- Experience working within complex stakeholder and approval structures.
- Experience with government digital services and public-facing applications.
