Description The UCVM Community Care Clinic in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Technologist Assistant (TA) for approximately 12 months.

The UCVM Community Care Clinic will provide veterinary care to Albertans facing barriers to accessing veterinary services, while offering opportunities for veterinary students to learn and apply the principles of contextualized care in a primary care small animal setting.¿

The TA (Technologist Assistant) reports directly to the Lead RVT, or the Manager, Community Care Clinic. They may also receive functional direction from faculty members, especially when it comes to mentoring or demonstrating clinical skills and procedures. Will occasionally work with Clinical Teaching Technicians, likely in support of student learning and clinic operations.

Given the work environment, the Community Care Clinic TA must not have any known animal allergies that interfere with their ability to perform the tasks required of the position. The position may be physically demanding due to the heavy lifting and prolonged periods of standing required.

The work requires the staff to be highly analytical when planning and providing services to support UCVM Community Care Clinic. This position can occasionally have high stress level due to the work performed.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Assist RVTs and veterinarians with animal handling, restraint, and preparation for exams and procedures
- Prepare animals and equipment for diagnostics such as blood draws, urinalysis, fecal exams, and imaging
- Support surgical and dental procedures by preparing surgical packs, sterilizing instruments, and assisting with patient prep and recovery
- Monitor animals during procedures and recovery, ensuring comfort and safety
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of exam rooms, surgical suites, and treatment areas
- Provide support at the front desk, including greeting clients, answering phones, and processing payments as needed
- Ensures incidents or occupational injuries are properly documented and reported as outlined in University of Calgary Safety and Security protocols
- Interacts with facility users (faculty, students, staff, and others) in a pleasant and respectful manner
- Maintains confidentiality, adheres to safety regulations,



and is flexible in helping in other areas as required
- May be required to be a member on various teams or committees as directed by the Manager, Community Care Clinic

Qualifications / Requirements

- Certification in Veterinary Technician Assistant or Veterinary Office Assistant (asset)
- 3-¿5 years of experience in a small animal veterinary practice
- Knowledge of contextualized care and spectrum-of-care models
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology, procedures, and patient record systems (e.g., ezyVet)
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a changing environment
- The ability to restrain and handle small animals with low stress handling
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Physical ability to lift animals and stand for extended periods
- Experience working with students and/or in educational settings (preferred)
