Location: Remote / Hamilton, ON (Must be able to attend in-person meetings in Hamilton)

Time Commitment: Up to 5 hours/month (Includes 1.5-hour monthly board meeting)

Term: Minimum 2-year commitment

The OpportunityWe are seeking dedicated, passionate leaders to join our Board of Directors. As a volunteer Board Member, you will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction, governance, and community impact of BLK OWNED.

We are currently recruiting for individuals who fit one or more of the following focus areas:

- Financial & Strategic Leader: Strong background in finance, accounting, or strategic planning (via qualified career or prior board experience) to oversee financial health, budget planning, and long-term organizational strategy.
- Community Champion: A high-energy ambassador who is passionate about our mission, comfortable networking, and eager to advocate for BLK OWNED across community events, media, and local networks.
- Business Owner / Entrepreneur: Current or former business owners who understand the real-world challenges and opportunities of running an enterprise,



bringing practical insights to guide our program development and small business initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Attend and actively participate in 1.5-hour monthly board meetings.
- Provide strategic oversight, governance, and guidance aligned with your area of expertise.
- Support BLK OWNED initiatives, strategic goals, fundraising goals, and special projects.
- Represent BLK OWNED at community events, networking functions, or program launches.
- Actively champion the organization’s mission and foster relationships within the community.

Qualifications & Expectations

- Expertise in finance/strategy, community advocacy, or entrepreneurship.
- Prior board experience is an asset, though not strictly required.
- Ability to commit up to 5 hours per month, including board meetings and community support.
- Willingness to travel to Hamilton, ON for in-person board meetings and key events.
- A strong commitment to supporting Black-owned businesses and driving economic equity.
