The Total Group of Companies is looking for a Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Technician to join our team of fire and safety professionals! This role will focus on inspecting and cleaning commercial kitchen exhaust systems in accordance with NFPA 96, applicable fire-code requirements and company procedures.

Daily tasks and activities include, but are not limited to:

Inspect and clean commercial kitchen exhaust systems

Clean kitchen hoods, filters, grease-removal devices, accessible ductwork, exhaust fans and related components

Remove grease and other combustible deposits using approved cleaning methods

Set up containment and protect kitchen equipment and surrounding areas

Safely operate pressure-washing, scraping and degreasing equipment

Access rooftop exhaust fans using ladders and approved fall-protection equipment

Complete before-and-after inspections and take clear photographs of completed work

Apply service labels and complete required cleaning documentation

Identify and report inaccessible areas, damaged components and other deficiencies

Maintain company tools, cleaning equipment, PPE and vehicles

Communicate professionally with clients and site representatives

Follow all company and site-specific health and safety procedures

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

Authorized to work in Canada and possess a valid SIN





Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a minimum of three years of driving experience

Ability to provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract

Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Ability to climb ladders and work safely at heights

Flexible availability to work nights, early mornings, weekends and after hours as required

Willingness to travel and work remotely as needed

Ability to stay in hotels, camps or other employer-arranged accommodations during remote assignments

Ability to wear all required PPE and respiratory protection when applicable

Ability to complete client and site-specific orientations as required

To be selected for this role, you require the following training and certifications:

Approved Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Certification, such as Phil Ackland Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Certification, MFS Exhaust Hood Cleaning School or equivalent training accepted by the applicable authority

Training and knowledge of NFPA 96 commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning requirements

Fall Protection

WHMIS

Standard First Aid with CPR/AED

Ladder Safety

Valid respiratory mask fit test, or the ability to obtain one before beginning work

The following experience and certifications would be considered assets:

Previous commercial kitchen exhaust or hood-cleaning experience

Previous pressure-washing or industrial-cleaning experience

CSTS 2020

H2S Alive

Confined Space Entry and Monitor

Aerial Work Platform or Elevated Work Platform certification

Experience working on rooftops or around commercial exhaust fans

Experience completing service reports and photographic documentation

Experience working night shifts and travelling for remote projects
