Educational Qualifications:
1.1 Grade 12 Diploma
1.2 Building Operators “B” certificate, or equivalent preferred (new 5th class power engineering certificate, AB)

Work Experience:
2.1 One year experience in a commercial or institutional setting is required
2.2 Experience working with the elderly is preferred

3.1 Mechanical aptitude to perform a variety of minor repairs to building, furniture and fixtures required
3.2 Able to operate hand and power tools
3.3 Able to plan and organize varied duties for effective time management

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

- Provide subject matter expertise and duties in all maintenance areas of the site

- Utilize the DIN Maintenance Program, preventative maintenance program, perform minor equipment
and building related repairs

- Perform daily inspections and record reading as required to comply with municipal and provincial fire
and safety authority codes. Comply with GSS standards

- Daily readings and records of pressures, temperatures, air flows, liquid levels, etc. on boilers and air
handling systems. Adds chemicals as required

- Replace damaged parts or components of faulty electrical fixtures, cover plates, duplex receptacles,
switches, light bulbs and ballasts

- Repair, clean and/or maintain (according to policy) indoor and outdoor light fixtures, sinks, taps,
toilets. Inspects electrical appliances including televisions, lamps and radios

- Maintain chemically or augurs plugged sewer lines, clean drain traps and change water filters

- Maintain care beds by replacing castors and lubricating

- Prepare rooms for new residents by shampooing and buffing flooring, cleaning vents and touching up
paint

- Maintain building accessibility and appearance by removing ice and snow from walkways and parking
areas, maintaining lawn and landscape and cleaning maintenance area

- Installs and takes down seasonal decorations

- Perform inventory of grounds keeping tools and equipment

- Clean, paint and stain furniture, fences, garbage enclosures, etc.

- Spring and fall clean up of all grounds, including pruning of trees and shrubs

- Maintain maintenance sheds





- Ensure barbeque is operational

- Move and repair furniture

- Clean and monitor refrigeration coils

- Assist sub-contractors during site visits (does not work with contractor)

- Perform monthly inspections on all fire extinguishers and participate in fire drills; test generator and
emergency lighting monthly

- Ensure all records and documentation are prepared and accessible including monthly PM
requirements

- Report to the CSM or ALC in a timely manner on outstanding issues

- Other duties may be assigned within the scope of the position

- Demonstrate dependability by reporting to work on time and as scheduled

- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, keeping the work environment consistently tidy

- Adhere to all infection control practices and procedures

- Pursue continual learning by participating in educational opportunities, in-services and/or training
programs

- Ensure an environment and resources which nurture spirituality

- Maintain confidentiality on issues related to residents, employee matters and GSS information

Requirements:

- A current and clear Criminal Records Check Form and if applicable a Vulnerable Sector Check that has been obtained no more than 90 calendar days prior to the hire date.
- A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.
