Position Overview:

As a GIS Specialist in LEGACY’s Natural Sciences practice, you will support a diverse range of environmental consulting projects through the development, management, and analysis of spatial data and mapping products. You will work closely with environmental professionals, project managers, senior leadership, and other technical staff to provide high-quality GIS support throughout the project lifecycle.

This role offers the opportunity to apply your GIS expertise to real-world environmental challenges while contributing to projects across LEGACY’s practices. You will have a combination of independent work and collaborative project work, with opportunities to further develop your technical skills, expand your knowledge of environmental consulting, and contribute to the continued growth of LEGACY’s GIS capabilities.

Responsibilities:

As a GIS Specialist in LEGACY’s Natural Sciences practice, your role expectations include, but are not limited to, the following tasks and responsibilities:

- Collecting, analyzing, interpreting,



and using geospatial information to support teams and projects across LEGACY.
- Preparing high-quality figures, maps, and other GIS products to support field programs, technical reports, proposals, and other client deliverables.
- Supporting the preparation of technical deliverables involving spatial analysis, including impact assessment calculations, ecological restoration plans, and other environmental applications.
- Managing spatial data, geodatabases, and other GIS-related files to ensure information is accurate, organized, and accessible.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of internal GIS, mapping, database, and data-management standards.
- Supporting the development, application, and implementation of GIS-related databases and tools across LEGACY.
- Supporting the development and use of GIS field data-collection tools, including ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123, and providing training and support to LEGACY staff.
- Collaborating with technical staff across LEGACY to identify GIS needs and develop practical solutions that support project delivery.

Qualifications:

To be successful and thrive in this role, we expect the following qualifications and attributes will be necessary:

- A bachelor’s degree or similar in: geography or GIS; social, human, physical or biological sciences; environmental engineering; or a related discipline.




- Three to eight years of relevant experience in GIS and a consulting environment (preferably in British Columbia).
- Expertise in cartography, developing mapping products, spatial analysis and data management.
- Competency with GIS software, notably ESRI products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps).
- Working knowledge of provincial and federal public databases is desirable.
- Experience with QGIS and CAD software is a bonus.
- Proven organizational skills and work ethic with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across different disciplines and with peers.
- A willingness to learn and adapt.
