Overview

The Night Janitor contributes to the overall success of the Coast Bastion Hotel by ensuring our public areas, back-of-house spaces and facilities remain clean, safe, well maintained and welcoming throughout the night.

Working primarily during evening and overnight hours, the Night Janitor performs a variety of commercial cleaning, sanitation and basic facility-support duties while providing superior customer service to guests and fellow Ambassadors.

This position works independently for much of the shift and requires strong attention to detail, good judgement and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. The Night Janitor also works closely with and supports the Night Auditor with guest and operational requests as needed throughout the night.

Responsibilities

- Provide superior customer service to guests and fellow Ambassadors while completing janitorial and facility-support duties.
- Clean and maintain all assigned public and back-of-house areas of the hotel, including the lobby, public washrooms, hallways, stairwells, elevators, offices, staff areas, entrances and other common spaces.
- Perform routine commercial cleaning duties including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing surfaces and removing garbage and recycling.
- Complete scheduled deep-cleaning projects including stripping and waxing floors, carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning and window washing.
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of hotel entrances and other high-traffic areas throughout the shift.
- Clean, sanitize and restock public and staff washrooms, ensuring supplies such as soap, toilet paper and paper products are readily available.
- Remove garbage and recycling from designated areas and ensure waste is handled and disposed of appropriately.
- Assist with exterior cleanliness, grounds and seasonal work as required.
- Inspect public and back-of-house areas throughout the shift and identify concerns such as leaks, damaged fixtures, spills,



safety hazards or other maintenance issues.
- Report maintenance and safety concerns promptly and assist with minor maintenance or facility tasks when appropriate.
- Support the Night Auditor with guest requests and operational needs throughout the overnight shift, including responding to requests for supplies, addressing cleanliness concerns and assisting with other reasonable guest-service needs.
- Respond promptly and professionally when interacting with guests during overnight hours.
- Maintain janitorial equipment, cleaning tools and supplies in a clean, organized and safe condition.
- Monitor cleaning supplies and advise leadership when products or materials require replenishment.
- Use cleaning chemicals, equipment and machinery safely and in accordance with manufacturer instructions and hotel procedures.
- Follow established Occupational Health & Safety procedures, WHMIS requirements and hotel safety policies at all times.
- Adhere to Coast Hotels quality and cleanliness standards when completing assigned duties.
- Work independently and manage assigned responsibilities effectively with minimal supervision.
- Complete special projects, seasonal work and additional duties as required to support hotel operations.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

- Previous janitorial, housekeeping, commercial cleaning or related experience is preferred; however, training may be provided to the right candidate.
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment.




- Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions during overnight hours.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
- Good communication, interpersonal and customer-service skills.
- Professional attitude and appearance when interacting with guests and Ambassadors.
- Knowledge of commercial cleaning procedures, equipment and products is an asset.
- Basic knowledge of facility maintenance practices is an asset.
- Pool maintenance experience is an asset.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices and the safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to identify and report maintenance and safety concerns.
- Ability to remain calm, skilled and responsive in a fast-paced or high-pressure environment.
- Reliable, punctual and comfortable working with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to learn new cleaning procedures, equipment and facility-maintenance tasks.

Physical Requirements

The Night Janitor must have the physical mobility and stamina required to perform commercial cleaning duties throughout the shift, including:

- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, crouching and repetitive movement.
- Lifting, carrying and moving cleaning supplies, garbage and equipment.
- Pushing and pulling cleaning equipment and carts.
- Safely operating commercial cleaning equipment.

Availability

The successful candidate must be available to work evening and overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on the operational needs of the hotel.

The Night Janitor plays an important role in ensuring that when our guests and Ambassadors begin their day, the hotel is clean, safe, organized and ready to welcome them.

Pay: $24.86 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
