Theoden Group of Companies, a leading construction group based in Acheson, Alberta, Canada, is seeking an experienced Senior Civil & Survey CAD Technologist to join our team. The position will primarily support the Survey Department with Civil 3D drafting, survey data QA/QC, construction modeling, quantities, and preparation of field deliverables for heavy civil construction projects. This is a full-time position, reporting to the Survey Manager.

Core Requirements

- Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Strong working knowledge of Trimble Business Center (TBC).
- Ability to import, review, and perform QA/QC checks on field survey data in TBC prior to processing and incorporating the data into Civil 3D.
- Ability to review survey observations and collected field data for potential errors, inconsistencies, or issues before the information is used for drafting, modeling, or quantity calculations.
- Strong experience creating, editing, and managing Civil 3D corridors, including working with assemblies, targets, alignments, profiles, corridor surfaces, and extracting information required for construction layout and modeling.
- Strong experience creating and managing Civil 3D surfaces, alignments, profiles, feature lines, breaklines, and 3D polylines.
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings, IFC drawings, grading plans, profiles, cross-sections, and details.
- Ability to prepare accurate construction layout information for field survey crews.
- Experience preparing and working with XML, DXF, DWG, CSV, and surface/model data.
- Ability to perform surface-to-surface volume calculations and assist with construction quantity tracking.
- Understanding of earthworks, grading, road construction, drainage, utilities, and general heavy civil construction.
- Ability to work with large Civil 3D drawings, surfaces, aerial imagery, and datasets.




- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential discrepancies between design information, survey data, and field requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple active projects and respond to time-sensitive requests from field operations.
- Willingness and availability to work overtime when required to support project schedules, field operations, month-end requirements, and other time-sensitive deliverables.

Qualifications

- Previous experience directly supporting construction survey operations.
- Experience preparing 3D models and files for GPS machine control.
- Experience working with Trimble GNSS and total station survey data.
- Experience with drone mapping, LiDAR, point clouds, and orthophotos.
- Knowledge of coordinate systems, transformations, and survey control.
- Previous experience in heavy civil construction, earthworks, highways/roads, or large infrastructure projects.

Education / Experience

- Diploma or certificate in Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Surveying, CAD Technology, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Relevant hands-on experience in civil drafting, construction surveying, or heavy civil construction may be considered in place of formal education.
- Previous heavy civil and/or construction survey experience is strongly preferred.
