We are looking for an experienced Human Resources (HR) Manager to join a non-profit organization in Toronto, Ontario on a Long-term Contract basis. This position is ideal for a well-rounded HR leader who can lead with sound judgement in a unionized setting while remaining actively involved in daily operations. The successful candidate will support labour relations, employee engagement, talent acquisition, and leadership coaching, while helping the organization maintain effective people practices across the full employee lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Lead labour relations activities by interpreting collective agreements, responding to workplace concerns, and guiding grievance resolution in a unionized environment.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with union representatives, leaders, and employees to support respectful and collaborative outcomes.
- Provide day-to-day HR guidance across employee relations, policy application, performance matters, and operational people issues.
- Partner with hiring managers to coordinate recruitment efforts, support selection processes, and strengthen onboarding practices.
- Coach people leaders on employee management, workplace communication, and consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
- Oversee HR administration, including benefits coordination, documentation, reporting, and maintenance of accurate employee records within HR systems.
- Contribute to training and development initiatives that enhance leadership capability, compliance, and employee experience.
- Support organizational events, planning activities, and logistics as part of a hands-on HR leadership approach.
- Prepare HR and union-related reports, monitor key issues, and recommend practical solutions that align with organizational objectives.
- Demonstrated experience in a Human Resources leadership role within a unionized workplace.
- Strong knowledge of labour relations,
including collective agreement interpretation, grievance handling, and union engagement.
- Broad HR expertise spanning employee relations, recruitment, HR administration, and policy implementation.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with direct, hands-on involvement in day-to-day operational matters.
- Experience using HRIS or Human Resources Management Systems to maintain records and support reporting.
- Solid understanding of benefits administration, HR procedures, and workplace documentation requirements.
- Proven ability to build trust with leaders, employees, and union representatives in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent communication, judgement, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage sensitive issues effectively.
