Select People Solutions is searching for an experienced Design Manager to join our client’s team in Calgary. This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced truss and engineered wood product design professional who can combine strong technical expertise with effective team management. The successful candidate will oversee design operations, mentor and develop the design team, and drive consistency, efficiency, and continuous improvement across the organization.

This role is remote, with occasional travel to Calgary and project sites as required. The successful candidate must be located within 400 km of Calgary, AB.

Compensation & Hours:

- The rate of pay will be $95-115K/year, based on experience and education
- Monday through Friday
- Approximately 40 – 50 hours per week
- Permanent, full-time position

Position Summary:

- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Design Technicians, overseeing workloads, priorities, performance, and professional development
- Oversee truss, floor system, and engineered wood product designs, ensuring accuracy, code compliance, structural integrity, constructability, and cost effectiveness
- Establish and maintain consistent design standards, processes, templates, and workflows across the organization
- Review complex and high-value designs while providing technical guidance and troubleshooting support to designers,



customers, and internal teams
- Collaborate with sales, operations, and field teams to ensure designs align with customer requirements, manufacturing capabilities, project conditions, and organizational objectives
- Drive continuous improvement within the design function by evaluating software, workflows, training needs, and industry developments to improve accuracy, turnaround times, and overall efficiency

Required Qualifications:

- 7+ years of experience in truss and/or engineered wood product (EWP) design, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity
- Strong proficiency with MiTek design software and working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Thorough understanding of applicable building codes, design standards, and construction practices
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Architectural Technology, Design, or a related discipline is preferred
- Proven ability to lead and develop technical teams while managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

- Experience leading or supporting a centralized or multi-location design function
- Demonstrated success improving design workflows, standardization, or operational efficiency
- Advanced MiTek system knowledge and experience training or mentoring other designers
