Black Dog Oilfield Services Ltd. is seeking an experienced 2nd or 3rd Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice to join our team in Leduc.

This is not an entry-level apprenticeship position. We're looking for someone who is already a registered HET apprentice with practical heavy-duty shop experience and is ready to continue progressing through the trade.

The majority of this position is in-shop truck and trailer repair, with occasional service truck and field work.

Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections
- Diagnose and troubleshoot truck and trailer mechanical issues
- Repair and adjust driveline components, brakes, suspension, steering and related equipment
- Assist with engine, electrical and after-treatment diagnostics and repairs




- Assist Journeyman Technicians with Truck, Trailer and School Bus CVIP inspections and repairs
- Complete inspections, repair orders and required documentation accurately
- Accurately determine the nature and extent of repairs within your level of training and experience
- Perform fleet maintenance and repair work
- Perform occasional service truck and field repairs
- Maintain a safe, clean and professional work setting
- Continue developing diagnostic and troubleshooting skills under experienced Journeyman Technicians

Qualifications Required
- Registered 2nd or 3rd Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice in Alberta
- Previous hands-on heavy-duty mechanical experience
- Experience working on commercial trucks, trailers and/or heavy equipment
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Clean driving record for insurance purposes
- Own basic hand tools
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to safely use hand, power and shop tools
- Ability to work independently within your level of training and ask for assistance when required
- Reliable with good communication and teamwork skills
- Attention to detail and pride in your workmanship





Preferred Experience Experience in any of the following is considered an asset:
- Truck and trailer repair
- Air brake systems
- Steering and suspension
- Wheel-end and driveline repairs
- Electrical diagnostics
- Diesel engine repair
- After-treatment systems
- Fleet maintenance
- CVIP-related inspections and repairs
