Academic Integrity Specialist, Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic

Summary: The academic integrity specialist provides institutional leadership and serves as the central resource for advancing academic integrity across the university. This position leads academic integrity operations and supports the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of academic integrity initiatives, policies, regulations, and practices. Working collaboratively with academic and administrative partners, this role develops institutional plans, educational resources, and support programs that promote integrity in teaching, learning, assessment, and student success.

The specialist monitors emerging trends, issues, risks, and opportunities, including the impact of artificial intelligence and other technologies on higher education. This position informs policy and practice, promotes procedural consistency, and advances coordinated approaches that foster a culture of academic integrity across the institution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Identifies, prioritizes, and addresses complex academic integrity issues, risks, and emerging challenges.
- Leads the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of institution-wide academic integrity programs, initiatives, and strategic priorities.
- Leads complex projects and change initiatives across colleges and administrative units, influencing stakeholders and promotes consistent academic integrity practices throughout the university.
- Provides leadership across the university to advance and implement institutional strategies regarding academic integrity in assessment of student learning.
- Supervises department staff by coaching and mentoring employees, supporting professional development, assigning workflow, and supporting all stages of the employee lifecycle.
- Fosters a culture of academic integrity as it relates to the role of emerging technologies across the university.
- Advises academic leaders, governance bodies, and university partners on academic integrity matters, emerging issues, and evidence-informed practices.
- Provides expert leadership on academic integrity policy, governance, compliance, and institutional risk management, developing recommendations for senior leaders and governance bodies.
- Monitors, analyzes, and interprets institutional data, sector trends, emerging risks, and opportunities to inform decision-making, policy development, and continuous improvement.
- Supports the implementation, interpretation, and continuous improvement of academic integrity policies, regulations, procedures, and governance frameworks.
- Develops and communicates recommendations, reports, and strategic resources that support institutional awareness, accountability, and evidence-informed academic integrity practices.




- Monitors and provides guidance on the implications of emerging technologies, including generative artificial intelligence, for academic integrity and academic misconduct.
- Advances coordinated approaches to student education, support, and success related to academic integrity in collaboration with academic and administrative units.
- Develops educational resources and professional learning opportunities that promote academic integrity in assessment, particularly in technology-enhanced learning environments.
- Promotes evidence-informed and ethically responsible approaches to the use of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies within the university learning environment.
- Builds and sustains productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and represents the university in skilled, sector, community, and academic integrity networks.
- Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment.
- Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement.
- Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position.

Qualifications:

- A master's degree in education, administration, public administration, student affairs, policy studies, or a related field; a doctoral degree is an asset.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a post-secondary environment, including experience leading strategic initiatives, programs, projects, or committees involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Experience providing advice and guidance related to policy, governance, regulatory implementation, or organizational practice, preferably as it relates to academic integrity.
- Experience developing and delivering educational programs, professional learning opportunities, communications, and institutional resources, as well as analyzing information, identifying trends, and preparing reports and recommendations.
- Knowledge of academic integrity principles, governance frameworks, policy implementation, and emerging issues affecting higher education.
- Understanding of teaching,



learning, assessment, student success, and the evolving impacts of artificial intelligence and other educational technologies.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Excellent project management skills and the ability to maintain multiple priorities and initiatives.
- Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking, systems analysis, and problem-solving.
- Strong consultation, facilitation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to influence, build consensus, and lead through collaboration in a complex organizational environment.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze complex information and translate findings into practical recommendations and resources.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when dealing with sensitive matters.
