AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN / MECHANIC

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are a used-vehicle dealership with an in-house automotive service and repair shop in Burnaby, BC, and we are looking for an experienced and dependable Automotive Technician / Mechanic to join our team.

Our dealership regularly purchases used vehicles for inventory. The primary responsibility of this position is to inspect, diagnose, service, repair, and recondition vehicles before they are placed on our sales lot and offered to customers.

The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring that every vehicle we purchase is properly assessed and prepared to meet our dealership's standards for safety, reliability, mechanical condition, and frontline readiness.

This position will initially be offered on a full-time contract basis, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position based on performance, experience, reliability, and mutual fit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform comprehensive mechanical inspections on newly acquired used vehicles
- Perform applicable B.C. vehicle safety inspections
- Identify safety, mechanical, and maintenance concerns
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues
- Complete required repairs and maintenance
- Perform oil changes, fluid services, and preventative maintenance
- Inspect and service brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust, cooling systems, and other vehicle components
- Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting
- Road-test vehicles when required
- Determine what repairs and services are required to make each vehicle retail-ready
- Recondition dealership inventory mechanically
- Complete quality-control checks following repairs
- Ensure vehicles are safe and mechanically ready before being placed on the sales lot
- Maintain accurate records of inspections,



services, and repairs
- Communicate repair requirements and parts requirements to dealership management
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Follow all applicable workplace health and safety procedures
- Properly use automotive lifts, tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment
- Perform other related automotive duties as required

YOUR PRIMARY ROLE The majority of your work will involve vehicles purchased by our dealership. When a vehicle arrives, you will be responsible for assessing its overall mechanical condition and determining what it needs before it can be offered for sale.

The process will generally involve:

INSPECT → DIAGNOSE → SERVICE → REPAIR → ROAD TEST → QUALITY CHECK → FRONTLINE READY

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of this process and ensure that vehicles are properly prepared before they reach our customers.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required:

- Previous professional experience as an Automotive Technician, Automotive Mechanic, or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of automotive mechanical systems
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to independently inspect and diagnose a variety of makes and models
- Experience performing general automotive repairs and maintenance
- Valid driver's licence
- Reliable and dependable
- Ability to work independently
- Solid attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple vehicles
- Own basic mechanic hand tools

Assets:

- Red Seal Automotive Service Technician certification
- B.C. Automotive Service Technician qualification
- B.C. Authorized Inspector qualification
- Experience performing B.C.

COMPENSATION & EMPLOYMENT
- Full-time contract position
- Salary based on experience, qualifications, and skill level
- Monday–Saturday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Sunday off
- Employee will be placed on the company's regular payroll
- Applicable payroll deductions will be made, including income tax, CPP, and EI
- Applicable B.C. employment standards will apply, including eligible vacation, statutory holiday, and other applicable entitlements
- WorkSafeBC coverage will apply as required
- Potential opportunity to transition to permanent employment based on performance and mutual fit
- Employment terms will be outlined in a written employment agreement
