Position Summary

Freebird Market is looking for a full-time Barista / Cashier to join our team at our Bay Adelaide Centre location in downtown Toronto.

The Barista / Cashier is responsible for preparing high-quality coffee and tea beverages while delivering efficient, professional customer service in a high-volume, fast-paced PATH location.

This is a hands-on team role that also includes cashier responsibilities, front-of-house support, light food preparation, cleaning, dishwashing, restocking, and other duties required to support the daily operation of the café.

Key Responsibilities

Beverage Execution

- Prepare coffee and tea beverages, including espresso-based drinks, matcha, and specialty lattes, with precision, consistency, and speed
- Follow established beverage recipes and standards to ensure consistency across all drinks
- Grind, dose, and extract espresso and steam milk to the proper texture and temperature
- Execute clean, consistent latte art, including hearts and rosettas
- Maintain quality and efficiency during peak service periods

Cashier & Customer Service

- Operate the POS accurately and efficiently and process cash, debit, and credit transactions
- Take customer orders quickly and accurately
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen and other team members
- Help maintain an efficient flow of service and keep customer lines moving
- Provide friendly, professional, and attentive customer service

Pastry, Food & Stock Support

- Maintain fully stocked, clean, and organized pastry displays and refrigeration
- Ensure cookies, croissants, and other pastry items remain stocked throughout service
- Complete basic food and pastry preparation and finishing tasks, including filling cannolis, as required
- Receive and properly store milk and other deliveries
- Follow FIFO procedures when rotating products




- Monitor inventory and communicate with the kitchen when products or supplies are running low
- Restock front-of-house products, packaging, beverages, and supplies as required

Cleaning, Dishes & Workstation Standards

- Maintain a clean, organized, and service-ready workstation throughout the shift
- Wash dishes, utensils, equipment, and other items as required
- Clean and maintain espresso machines, grinders, and barista tools according to operational standards
- Complete routine cleaning and sanitation duties throughout the café
- Restock milk, syrups, beans, packaging, and other required items ahead of demand
- Identify and report equipment issues promptly
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace standards

Team & Operational Support

- Support team members across different stations during peak service periods
- Assist with food preparation, stocking, cleaning, dishwashing, and other operational tasks as required
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the productive day-to-day operation of the café
- Maintain a sense of urgency, awareness, and accountability in a high-volume environment
- Work collaboratively as part of the front-of-house and kitchen team

Qualifications

- Previous barista or fast-paced food service experience preferred
- Experience preparing espresso-based beverages is strongly preferred
- Comfortable assisting with cleaning, dishwashing, food preparation, and other café duties as required
- Ability to perform effectively in a high-volume environment
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and speed of execution
- Friendly and confident communicator with a team-oriented mindset
- Passion for coffee, food, and hospitality
- Food Handler Certification is an asset
- Full-time availability Monday to Friday is required
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
