Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting co-op applications for the temporary, full time position of Business Analyst – Co-op Student in the Transit Fleet division of Halifax Transit.

Under the general direction of the Business Analyst Asset Management & Control, the Business Analyst – Coop Student (BAS) provides expert advice and support in the operation, maintenance and recapitalization of Halifax Transit’s fleet consisting of over 400 vehicles.
Transit
Fleet is responsible for the daily maintenance and servicing of a diverse fleet of vehicles, development and execution of a preventative maintenance and warranty program, major component rebuilds, transit facility and equipment maintenance as well as transit fleet acquisition and disposal.
The Business Analyst – Student position assists with the improvement of Transit Fleet key performance indicators (KPI) and KPI reporting mechanisms to track the success of quality initiatives. The BAS will also assist with the implementation of continuous improvement projects and follow the Plan, Do, Act, Check (PDCA) Cycle.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for developing performance targets and tracking/trending performance
- Demonstrates technical expertise, creativity and sound judgement by assuming a lead role in the implementation of processes and quality improvement initiatives in an effort to continually improve service delivery and minimize defects as well as service disruptions.
- Assumes a proactive role in troubleshooting internal processes with a focus on continuous quality improvements and consistency that will increase efficiency, enhance quality and/or reduce costs.
- Implements a quality service approach within the business unit to ensure the highest level of citizen/client satisfaction.
- Responsible for the implementation of projects and associated business change management activities on behalf of the maintenance department.
- Prepares audit procedures to monitor the implemented process improvements. Reviews the audit data and proposes changes to the process for continuous improvement.
- Communicates effectively; builds relationships and cross-functional teams that are conducive to customer, department and organizational needs.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- Pursuing university degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Business Administration.
- Education and experience associated with analytical thinking, problem solving, process improvement and multi-tasking.
- Knowledge and/or experience in heavy equipment fleet or manufacturing environment is preferred.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Experience and proficient MS Office; advanced skills in Excel required.
- Experience working with databases and developing queries is an asset.
- Computer skills associated with query language, scripting language and statistical analysis considered an asset.

WORK STATUS: Winter Co-op Position, January 2027 - April 2027.
HOURS OF WORK: Monday – Friday, 8:30am- 4:30pm; 35 hours per week.
SALARY: Non Union, $21.00 - $25.00 per hour, depending on year of study.
WORK LOCATION: Burnside Transit Centre, 200 Ilsley Ave, Dartmouth, NS, B3B 1V1.
