Company Description The Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) is a member-based not-for-profit association that champions the advancement of the chemical sciences in Canada. The CIC is looking for an energetic, collaborative, organized, and confident individual with a vision and a passion to be a part of our team providing copyediting, proofing, and production support as required for The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering (CJCE).
Role Description The CJCE Production Editor (Parental Leave Position - 10 months) is a full-time remote role, responsible for managing the production workflow of The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating manuscript handling from acceptance to publication, performing detailed text editing and proofreading, and ensuring consistency with journal style and publishing standards. The role involves liaising with authors, reviewers, and publishers to resolve queries, maintain schedules, and uphold quality and accuracy throughout the editorial process.
The Production
Editor also supports continuous improvement of editorial procedures, contributes to maintaining the journal’s reputation within the chemical engineering community, and ensures timely delivery of print and online content.
Responsibilities
· Support editorial staff in all activities leading to publication
· Copyedit and proofread manuscripts. This includes making stylistic, structural, and grammatical corrections, as well as other substantive changes as needed.
· Liaise with authors and Wiley production staff when monitoring timescales for all stages in the publishing process
· Online proofing system (OPS) management
· Proof typeset articles
· Draft monthly Table of Contents as well as tables of contents for quarterly virtual issues
· Review content within paginated issue text files
· Maintain data entry requirements by following procedures
· Compose agendas/reports for CJCE-related meetings
· Facilitate the journal’s yearly marketing plan, schedule, and activities
· Write news stories for CIC News to promote the journal and journal activities
· Compose marketing and social media content to promote the journal
· Create marketing and social media content to promote the journal and CJCE sessions at the annual CSChE Conference
· Update journal-related website content
· Assist with CJCE-related workshop/activities
- · Facilitate additional strategic initiatives by advancing special projects
Qualifications
· University degree majoring in English or relevant field (i.e., Linguistics, Journalism)
· Previous editing and proof-reading experience are essential
· Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with excellent organization and time management skills
· Ability to effectively communicate across a large spectrum of training, experience, position, stature, and cultures among university faculty and administration, government,
industry, and CIC staff
· Strong interpersonal, analytical, written, and oral communication skills
· Proficient in Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
· Proficient in Adobe suite of products (Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop)
· Knowledge of LaTex is an asset
· Demonstrated savviness in technology (software)
