Job Summary The Team:

The BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) is a dedicated and knowledgeable team of conservation officers stationed in communities across the province. For over 120 years, the BCCOS has worked to protect the province’s natural resources, setting, and be a public safety provider. Its mission is to enforce resource laws and manage human-wildlife conflict response and prevention through compliance, education, investigations, and enforcement actions.

BCCOS operates three branches: Provincial Operations (uniformed officers), Provincial Investigations (plainclothes), and Headquarters (governance and training).

This competition is intended to recruit both experienced law enforcement officers wanting to join the BCCOS, as well as qualified current recruits who will attend the Western Conservation Law Enforcement Academy 2027 delivery.

The Role:

As a Conservation Officer with the BCCOS, you are entrusted with enforcing 33 federal and provincial statutes to protect the public across British Columbia.

Status under the Police Act, you are on the frontline of environmental law enforcement, conducting a variety of investigations each year in collaboration with multiple agencies. This is a diverse and demanding role with each day presenting new and exciting challenges. Your work will have a direct impact on the safety and well-being of citizens and the environment as you safeguard BC’s natural resources.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:

- Completion of a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in natural resource law enforcement, combined with relevant work experience directly related to the position; or
- Previous successful completion of the Western Conservation Law Enforcement Academy (WCLEA); or




- Previous work experience as an armed law enforcement officer.
- An equivalent combination of education and law enforcement experience may be considered.

Willingness Statements - Applicants Must:

- Hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Have successfully completed the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.
- Have successfully completed the BC Conservation Outdoor Recreation and Education Course (CORE) or Provincial equivalent.
- Have successfully completed and possess current Intermediate First Aid with Transport Endorsement or equivalent training.
- Hold a Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification.
- Be fully operational and able to carry out the duties of an armed Conservation Officer.

About this Position:

This posting is to establish an eligibility list for permanent vacancies with the BC Conservation Officer Service in multiple locations across the province.

The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and is not a complete list.

Successful applicants will receive notification of their first geographical Point of Assembly (POA) before commencing the Western Conservation Law Enforcement Academy.

Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.

Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.

Enhanced Security Screening will be required.

Newly hired officers will now begin their employment at the same pay level (Grid 24) as their fully trained co-workers. There is no longer an under-implementation system in place while recruits are in the academy and on field training.

Students currently enrolled in a post-secondary program of natural resource law enforcement and scheduled to graduate with a diploma or degree by April 30th, 2027 may be considered for this competition on condition of graduation by April 30th, 2027.

Applicants selected for further assessment are required to make themselves available for an online assessment that is anticipated to occur on October 9th, 2026. Details of this assessment will be shared via e-mail on October 7th, 2027. In-person interviews for selected applicants are anticipated to occur between October 19th and November 13th, 2027. All dates are subject to change.
