Reporting to the Director, Patient Safety, the Patient Safety Consultant plays a critical role in supporting organizational learning and advancing safer care across Acute Care Alberta (ACA). This position provides specialized expertise in patient safety reporting, data management, analytics, and information systems, enabling leaders and healthcare teams to make evidence-informed decisions that improve the quality and safety of care delivery. The location for this hybrid position is versatile within the Province of Alberta. Our small but highly collaborative Patient Safety team partners closely with healthcare organizations across ACA and other Provincial Health Agencies to support standardized review processes, recommendation management, organizational learning, and patient safety improvement initiatives. In this role, you will develop reports and dashboards, support the integrity of patient safety data, maintain and enhance the Review & Recommendation Tracker (RRT), and provide consultation and education to stakeholders across the health system. Your work will directly support identification of patient safety risks, tracking of recommendations, monitoring of improvement efforts, and dissemination of learning that contributes to safer care for Albertans. Description:

The Patient Safety Consultant is a specialized analytics and systems role that provides expertise in patient safety reporting, data management, recommendation management, and information systems that support organizational learning and quality improvement. The role collects, validates, analyzes, interprets,



and disseminates patient safety information to support leadership decision-making and the prioritization of safety initiatives. The Consultant applies advanced analytical and technical skills to extract, query, validate, and synthesize data from multiple sources and uses tools such as Snowflake, Tableau, Microsoft Report Builder, SQL-based reporting solutions, and the Review & Recommendation Tracker (RRT) to develop reports, dashboards, visualizations, and analyses that identify trends, hazards, recommendations, and opportunities for improvement. The position supports the integrity, accuracy, reliability, and accessibility of patient safety information through database management, data validation, troubleshooting, coding, and system maintenance. The Consultant supports recommendation management by monitoring implementation progress, tracking corrective actions, identifying emerging themes and hazards, and promoting organizational learning from reviews and recommendations. The role provides training, consultation, and user support related to reporting functions, recommendation management processes, and RRT use. The Consultant also contributes to system enhancements and continuous improvement through participation in database design, report development, user acceptance testing, implementation of reporting solutions, and creation of educational resources. The Consultant demonstrates a commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, collaboration, and organizational learning to support safer care across Alberta.

Required Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in a health-related discipline, health informatics, information management, data analytics, statistics, business analytics, or another related field is required. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of pivot tables, formulas, charts, data analysis, and data validation functions. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint with the ability to develop reports, presentations, and professional communications for a variety of audiences. Working knowledge of SQL or similar database querying languages with the ability to query, extract, and validate data to support reporting and analysis activities.

Additional Required Qualifications: Recent experience in data analysis, reporting, database management, healthcare information systems, quality improvement, patient safety, or a related field is required.

Experience developing reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using reporting and business intelligence tools is required. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex datasets and communicate findings to diverse audiences.

Experience working with databases and data management processes, including data validation and quality assurance activities. Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop reports, presentations, educational materials, and technical documentation. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, improvement, and customer service.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Tableau, Snowflake, Microsoft Report Builder, SQL, RL6, or similar business intelligence platforms. Experience in healthcare quality, patient safety, recommendation management, health information systems, or performance reporting. Advanced education in health informatics, analytics, epidemiology, statistics, or quality improvement is an asset.
