Job Summary

Responsible and accountable for providing competent and compassionate care as a member of the Community Mental Health Team.

The Crisis

Worker provides assessment and intervention for individuals who present to the Emergency Department/Mental Health program in crisis due to symptoms associated with a serious and severe psychiatric problem and/or addiction, and/or psycho-social problem(s).

Qualifications And Experience

- Bachelors in Social Work (BSW), Registered Nurse or equivalent professional discipline.
- Master’s degree in counseling or related discipline preferred.
- Three to five years’ experience working in the mental health field, includes crisis intervention and working with those with serious mental illness.

- Experience in the hospital setting is preferred.
- Experience in CBT/DBT and leading/facilitating group therapy is an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of Best Practice guidelines in Crisis Intervention and Crisis theory.
- Excellent assessment and advanced counselling skills.




- Demonstrated ability to work with and advocate for individuals with severe and persistent Mental Illness.
- CBT/DBT and group counselling.
- Professional affiliations/memberships as appropriate.

- Demonstrated ability to develop care plans for those in crisis.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and public relations skills
- Displays and participates in team concept.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
- Demonstrates excellent organizational and time-management skills in a stressful work environment
- Ability to follow instructions, prioritize and multi-task.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and willingness to be flexible to meet department needs.
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Hours of Work: Available for all shifts including weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays
