School Chef / Cook – Early Childhood Education

We are looking for a passionate, reliable, and organized School Chef/Cook who enjoys preparing fresh, nutritious meals for young children and takes pride in creating a clean, welcoming kitchen environment.

The Role

As our School Chef, you will be responsible for planning and preparing nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children and staff.

You will have the opportunity to introduce children to a variety of flavours, textures, ingredients, and healthy foods, while helping them develop positive lifelong eating habits.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare fresh, nutritious, and age-appropriate meals and snacks for children and staff.
- Plan weekly menus using a variety of healthy and nutritious ingredients.
- Prepare breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks according to the school’s daily schedule.
- Follow applicable BC food safety, nutrition, and childcare guidelines.
- Prepare meals that meet children’s dietary restrictions and individual nutritional needs.
- Provide appropriate alternatives for allergies, dietary restrictions, vegetarian diets, and other food requirements.
- Introduce children to a variety of healthy foods, flavours, textures, and ingredients.




- Maintain accurate ingredient lists, food records, and food specifications as required.
- Ensure appropriate portion sizes and sufficient food quantities for children and staff while minimizing food waste.
- Plan grocery and kitchen supply needs in advance and complete shopping as directed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times.
- Follow proper food handling, storage, sanitation, and temperature-control procedures.
- Work efficiently to ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, teachers, and school leadership.
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude while working in the school environment.

What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience as a cook, chef, school cook, daycare cook, or similar role.
- Experience preparing meals for children is an asset.
- Knowledge of healthy nutrition and age-appropriate meals.
- Strong food preparation and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions.
- Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently.
- Strong time-management skills.
- Positive, friendly, and professional attitude.
- A genuine interest in children’s health, nutrition, and well-being.
- Food Safe certification is an asset / required.
- Criminal Record Check and other childcare-related requirements as applicable.

Pay: $22.00-$23.00 per hour
