Hours of Work: 70 hours bi-weekly

Shift Work Required: Some weekends and evenings may be required

Range of Pay: Group 13* - $37.89 to $46.37 per hour The start date will follow the selection process.

This position is eligible for hybrid work . Hybrid work arrangements are operational and incumbent based. The successful candidate will be required to work on-site at a City of Greater Sudbury location a minimum of three days per week and must be able to report to a City of Greater Sudbury work location within two hours when required.

Main Function

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Access and Engagement responsible for the design, development and evaluation of digital and information literacy collections, services and programs.

Objectives

- Strengthen Greater Sudbury Public Library’s (GSPL) role as a community hub for resources and connections.
- Support digital inclusion and community learning.

Duties

- Develop and deliver instruction and training programs for diverse audiences within areas of responsibility.
- Develop partnerships with interest holders and subject matter experts to enhance programming and service delivery.
- Create training materials, guides, and instructional resources to support ongoing staff learning within area of responsibility.
- In collaboration with other training team members, participate in customer service training delivery.
- Support operational and strategic projects.
- Participate actively in standing committees, working groups, and library-wide initiatives aligned with the position portfolio.
- Support the achievement of the library’s strategic priorities and service objectives.
- Provide readers’ advisory service and answer reference questions in person, by telephone or electronically.
- Instruct internal and external clients in the use of the library and associated search methods.
- Resolve complaints from the general public within pre-set parameters.
- Collaborate with the Collection Services team to develop, maintain, and evaluate information resources, including reference collections and digital resources.
- Perform public relations duties including tours, organizing displays and participating in community outreach events.




- Keep abreast of new developments in library services.
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Reference Desk practices and standards
- Act as a resource for staff on matters relating to reference service delivery, best practices, and solutions to problems affecting service quality, consistency, and user experience.
- Secure premises and set security system alarm.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the City’s Health and Safety policies and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Training

- Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation.

Experience

- Two and one-half (2½) years up to and including five (5) years of library experience.

Other Requirements

- Knowledge of best practices within areas of responsibility.
- Knowledge of library services and operations.
- Knowledge of various computer applications including Windows based systems (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet software, file transfer process, files maintenance, information input and retrieval and the Internet).
- Knowledge of library automated systems an asset.
- Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
- Ability to demonstrate problem solving and research skills.
- Ability to make public presentations.
- Ability to demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detailed work.
- Ability to demonstrate accurate keyboarding skills.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- French verbal and written skills an asset.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and accountability in meeting job responsibilities.
- Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid Class G driver’s license, and have an acceptable driving record.
