We're looking for an experienced Full-Time Afternoon Dispatcher to help coordinate transportation services across the Region of York.

This isn't a quiet desk job.

You'll help coordinate 55+ vehicles and 65+ drivers, monitor scheduled trips, respond to changing conditions and help ensure transit riders receive safe, reliable and uninterrupted transportation.

What You'll Be Responsible For

During your shift, you'll be one of the people helping keep the operation moving.

You'll

- Coordinate and dispatch drivers and vehicles throughout the Region of York
- Monitor scheduled trips and help maintain on-time service
- Answer multi-line phones and respond to operational issues
- Monitor drivers using computer-based systems
- Make timely decisions when schedules or operating conditions change
- Coordinate responses to emergencies
- Report and document incidents accurately
- Maintain professional, positive working relationships with drivers
- Assist management with accident and incident investigations
- Prepare and distribute operational memos
- Download and distribute service manifests according to schedule
- Complete administrative tasks that support daily operations

We're specifically looking for someone with:

- 3+ years of proven dispatch experience in a fast-paced environment
- Strong computer and keyboarding skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Professional telephone and customer-service skills
- Good geographical knowledge of the Region of York
- Strong multitasking and organizational ability
- The confidence to be decisive and assertive when necessary
- The ability to remain professional in high-stress situations
- The ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- A record of punctuality and dependable attendance
- Schedule flexibility
- The ability to learn and adapt to our systems quickly
