The Fairfield Gonzales Community Association (FGCA) is recruiting for an independent, curious and collaborative individual ECE to join our fantastic Early Years Team. The successful individual will be part of a dynamic team that is responsible for the oversight children aged 10m-5 years in an outdoor focused program.

Compensation and schedule

ECE Classification wage range: $33.80-$35.35/hour ~Including BC WE & dependent on education & experience

Vacation: 3 weeks paid vacation + 1 week of paid closure during the winter break (4 weeks total).

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5-8-hour shifts scheduled between 7:30am & 5:30pm

Program Details

Location: 1330 Fairfield Road

Outdoor program: 4-6 hours of the day is spent outdoors on our beautiful grounds.

Our Early Years programs close 3 times a year for 1 week, 5 days for professional development days & has 5 early dismissal days per year for staff meetings

Requirements

- ECE license to practice (ECE-IT license to practice an asset but not a requirement)
- Experience working in licensed childcare setting with children ages 10m-5yrs Responsibilities:
- Work in-ratio with a group of up to 16 children, alongside fellow ECE’s
- A propensity for flexibility and a desire to motivate fellow colleagues
- Demonstrated ability creating a safe and inclusive childcare environment
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time & lift 20-30lbs
- Must hold a valid Standard First Aid and CPR (C)
- Attend all scheduled professional development days & staff meetings
- Communicate with parents & colleagues daily in order to create an open and collaborative environment
- Follow the BC Early Learning Framework

Responsible/ Reports to: Report directly to the Lead Educator.



This position is accountable to the Early Years Senior Manager, Co-Executive Directors, and the Board of the Fairfield Gonzales Community Association concerning the program's successful operation.

Overall Position Objectives The Early Childhood Educator provides high quality of education experiences and activities, client centered childcare services within their specific program.

The ECE will uphold the program philosophy and child-centered early learning program and act in accordance with the FGCA policies and procedures as well as within the requirements of all governing agencies by:

- Encouraging involvement from our families in Association activities
- Collaborating with the other Early Years Programs
- Maintaining a general knowledge of Fairfield Gonzales Community Association’s services and programs
- Maintaining rules and regulations to create a comfortable atmosphere
- Attending staff meetings, and other community meetings, when necessary
- Supporting related FGCA activities and special events and generally promoting the mission of the association

Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities

Children

- With the support of the other team members, coordinate and plan the delivery of age-appropriate programs and activities for children from 10 months to 5 years of age
- Responsible for carrying the cell phone, first aid kit, and emergency information
- Promote children’s self-esteem and confidence building
- Provide a high standard of care to children in the program, with particular attention to physical safety and emotional well-being
- Provide age-appropriate guidance and direction to children in care
- Provide all required care and support to program participants including, but not limited to; provision of first aid, behaviour management, and appropriate risk management
- Document and report all incidents suspected or confirmed of child abuse or neglect to the Senior Manager and appropriate agencies

Parents

- ▪Liaise correct information between the Lead Educator other team members and parents at Lead Educator’s discretion




- ▪Communicate to parents positive aspects of their child’s day
- ▪Inform parents/guardians of any relevant or significant challenges regarding their child (i.e., behavioural, emotional, physical)
- ▪Be available for parent conferences or meetings when needed or requested
- ▪Remind parents of extra costs, changing hours, special events, etc.
- ▪Become familiar with all policies as stated in Staff and Parent Handbook and as governed by licensing regulations
- ▪Always display and promote a positive family-centered attitude and a helpful approach

Personnel/Communication

- Attend all staff meetings and training sessions
- Communicate with Lead Educator, Early Years Senior Manager, and other ECE’s to promote an open collaborative environment
- Report issues of concern to the manager in a timely fashion
- Communicate with coworkers to ensure that licensing requirements are maintained (attendance, ratio, log book, safety etc.)
- Actively participate in conflict resolutionCommunicate with other staff to promote an open collaborative environment
- Report issues of concern to the Lead Educator, Early Years Senior Manager in a timely fashion
- Submit reportable incidents to licensing in a timely manner
- Support break coverage
- Prep food

Facility

- Work to create and maintain a healthy, safe, clean, and family-centered environment
- Participate in daily cleaning as well as removal or correction of potential hazards
- Report any necessary repairs and replacements to the manager in a timely manner
- ▪Maintain first aid kits to licensing standards

Working Conditions

- Must be comfortable working in an Outdoor Program year-round
- Open workspace, noisy public access point
- Regular interruptions by co-workers, program participants, and public
- May have to support program delivery in other areas

Qualifications (Education / Skills/ Abilities)

- Valid ECE Certificate
- Relevant work experience with children aged Infant-5 years in a licensed childcare setting
- Solid computer skills including experience with server-based networks and MS Office
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong ability to maintain accurate records
- Standard First Aid and CPR (C)
- Criminal Record Check
- Special Needs certification is an asset.
