Role Description The Emergency Veterinarian is a full-time, on-site role based at our Ottawa, ON hospital. This role involves providing high-quality emergency and critical care to companion animals, including triage, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing case management. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing emergency procedures and surgeries as appropriate, interpreting diagnostics, prescribing medications, and maintaining detailed, accurate medical records.

The Emergency

Veterinarian will communicate with referring veterinarians, and provide explicit, empathetic guidance to clients during stressful situations.



Additional duties include participating in case rounds, supporting veterinary support staff, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning, safety, and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) and eligibility for licensure with the College of Veterinarians of Ontario.
- Experience in emergency and critical care medicine, including triage, stabilization, and management of acutely ill or injured companion animals.
- Proficiency in diagnostic evaluation, including physical examination, imaging review (digital radiography, ultrasound), and interpretation of laboratory results.
- Competence in common emergency procedures and soft tissue surgery, including anesthesia and pain management tailored to diverse species.
- Strong client communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team of emergency clinicians, specialists, and veterinary support staff.
- Commitment to compassionate, low-stress handling of animals and adherence to high standards of patient safety and welfare.
- Comfort working with a variety of species, including dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and small mammals, or willingness to learn and expand species knowledge.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including maintaining thorough medical records and managing multiple cases simultaneously.
