Summary:

Rosedale United Church and The Rosedale Centre are seeking a reliable, friendly and hands-on part-time Facilities Assistant to help keep our busy community building clean, safe and running smoothly on Monday and Thursday evenings.

This is a excellent part-time role for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys helping people and is comfortable working independently. The position combines cleaning and customer service, working under the supervision of the Office Manager, and reporting to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

Cleaning & Building Support

- Clean and sanitize washrooms, entrances, common areas and other assigned areas throughout the building, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, garbage removal and replenishing supplies
- Troubleshoot basic facility issues, communicate with the Facilities Coordinator as required, and complete minor corrective tasks when appropriate
- During winter shifts, clear snow and ice from entrances and walkways and apply ice melt as required to maintain safe access
- Safely use cleaning products, equipment and required PPE in accordance with Rosedale procedures

Worship, Event & Hospitality Support

- Prepare the Sanctuary for Sunday worship by cleaning pews, restocking supplies, updating hymn numbers, polishing piano, and setting up furnishings appropriately
- For rentals and events, set up and take down tables, chairs and equipment as requested
- Launder table clothes and other linens onsite on a weekly basis
- Prepare coffee and tea, including setting out coffee supplies, water and other basic refreshments and snacks as required for meetings and other events
- Complete kitchen clean-up, including washing dishes, loading and unloading sanitizer, wiping counters and returning event supplies as needed

Customer Service & Rental Support





- Greet everyone in a friendly and professional manner
- Welcome building users, provide directions and assist them as necessary
- Respond to reasonable facility requests and troubleshoot issues that arise
- Communicate building concerns to the Facilities Coordinator and Office Manager

Security, Safety & Emergency Response

- Complete an exterior building inspection at the beginning of each shift, including checking entrances and walkways and removing garbage on the property
- Conduct regular rounds inside building, monitoring for safety, security or facility concerns and rectifying issues as necessary
- Understand and follow Rosedale’s emergency and evacuation procedures, respond appropriately to security concerns or emergencies, and contact the Facilities Coordinator and emergency services when required
- Secure the building at the end of each shift

Work Environment & Physical Requirements: The successful candidate must be able to:

- Perform an active, hands-on role requiring regular walking, standing, bending, lifting and carrying
- Regularly walk up and down two flights of stairs throughout a shift
- Perform routine cleaning duties, including cleaning washrooms
- Safely move tables, chairs and other equipment independently
- Lift and carry up to 40 lbs
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain and snow
- Work alone in the building during evening hours




- Safely use a step ladder for routine tasks

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must

- Have previous hands-on experience with custodial or commercial cleaning, including washrooms, floors, common areas and general building upkeep
- Have previous experience working in a community centre, church, school, recreation facility, hospitality venue, rental facility, property management setting or similar public-facing building
- Speak and understand English clearly and confidently and be able to communicate effectively with renters, visitors, staff, contractors and emergency personnel
- Be friendly, approachable and professional when dealing with building users
- Be dependable, punctual and able to work independently
- Be calm, resourceful and able to solve problems when unexpected issues arise
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Be able to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
- Willing to complete required health, safety and emergency-response training

Employment Terms & Compensation:

- Regular in-person hours are Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00–10:00 pm (10 hours per week)
- Ontario public holidays are not typically worked
- Additional shifts may be available for Sunday worship, evening and weekend rentals, special events, staff vacation coverage and major snow events
- Attire is casual yet professional-looking; a Rosedale collared shirt can be provided

Pay: $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 per week
