Why is this role important? Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Operations Officer, Business Operations Division, the Executive Director provides enterprise leadership and sets strategic direction for the management and advancement of CIHI’s data assets, ensuring data is acquired, integrated, managed and made available effectively to support products, analytics and strategic priorities and the data and information needs of governments, health systems and other stakeholders.

The Executive

Director leads the evolution of the data lifecycle, driving greater integration, modernization and efficiency in how data moves through CIHI while strengthening the quality, timeliness and usability of CIHI’s data holdings through emerging technologies and AI.

The portfolio is focused on accessing the right data for CIHI, managing it effectively and enabling its use. It inherently has strong interdependencies with Standards, Governance & Stewardship and Analytics,



while maintaining primary accountability for the management and operational enablement of the data itself.

What you'll do

1. Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Data Management portfolio, aligned with CIHI’s mandate, strategic priorities and evolving data needs.
2. Lead the development and execution of portfolio priorities, plans and initiatives to strengthen the management, integration, quality and accessibility of CIHI’s data assets.
3. Oversee the effective allocation of financial, human and technical resources, ensuring sustainable delivery and value for investment.
4. Drive integration and collaboration across portfolios and functions, identifying and removing organizational, operational and other barriers that inhibit progress and the advancement of enterprise priorities.
5. Strengthen integration across related data, analytics, technology and corporate functions and identify opportunities to improve how work is coordinated across the organization.
6. Provide executive advice on emerging opportunities, risks, priorities and decisions affecting CIHI’s data capabilities and longer-term direction.
7. Build strong relationships with internal and external partners to advance shared objectives and support the effective use and evolution of CIHI’s data assets.
8. Lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary team and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, inclusion and continuous improvement.
9. Champion change and modernization within the portfolio, challenging established approaches where appropriate and creating the conditions for timely decision-making, execution and progress.

What you'll bring to the table

- Degree in a relevant discipline, including business, health, information management, data, analytics,



technology or a related field. An advanced degree is considered an asset.
- Minimum 10-12 years of progressive experience leading complex, enterprise-wide portfolios, initiatives and organizational change in a leadership capacity with a focus on data management, information management, analytics, technology or a related setting.
- Strong understanding of data management practices, data lifecycle principles and the evolving role of data in supporting organizational and health-system priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategy, translate priorities into action and deliver results in complex and evolving environments.
- Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries, navigate competing priorities and dependencies, and identify and remove barriers that impede execution or organizational progress.
- Strong relationship-building, consultation, negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build alignment among senior leaders and diverse internal and external partners.
- Demonstrated judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance strategic priorities, risks, resources and operational considerations.
- Ability to fulfill travel requirements.
- Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
