$60,320 - 62,400
PROBATION
Three (3) month probation period, after which an evaluation will be conducted.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Family Care program supports Indigenous families in Montreal to navigate the DYP system by offering accompaniment, advocacy, and service referrals. As a Family Care Worker, you will report to the Clinical Manager and be expected to complete the following tasks:
- Accompaniments
- Attend DYP related court hearings alongside clients, providing socio-emotional support
- Attend preparation and follow up meetings with Family Lawyers, providing support for clients and ensuring client’s voice is heard and respected
- Attend meetings with school counsellors or professionals alongside clients
- Provide support, when necessary or required, to various DYP related meetings or appointments
1. Advocacy
- When necessary or required, testifying in court related to DYP specific issues
- Equipping clients with resources and knowledge to exercise their rights
- Advocating for cultural rights of Indigenous families to be respected and upheld when navigating the DYP system.
- Collaborating with Department of Youth Protection (DYP) workers and Lawyers to ensure cultural safety in their mandates.
- Advocating to ensure clients' rights are respected when navigating the DYP system
- Ensuring clients have a full understanding of situations, mandates, and legal proceedings
- Respond to crisis situations as the arise
- Assist clients by drafting letters of support for accessing services or applying for funding (e.g., Jordan’s Principle, other relevant programs).
1. Service Referral
- Refer clients to various relevant and culturally secure resources in the community
- Keeping an up-to-date bank of resources available to clients for quick referrals
- Build relationships with relevant and trusted organizations for more fluid referrals
- Referring client if a task or need is outside of the scope of the Family Care program
1. Administrative Casework
- Complete intake and graduation/discharge of clients
- Assist client with housing application, children’s school enrollment
- Co-create an action plan for the client with achievable goals
- Conduct consistent 3-month check-ins with clients to determine if services are still necessary and how support can be adapted if needed
- Assist clients in creating a budget plan
- Attend weekly case management meetings.
- Ensuring client files are maintained regularly (i.e. case notes, consent forms, progress notes etc)
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology,
Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Child Studies or other Relevant field with one year of experience; or a DEC in Early Childhood Education or relevant field with at least 2 years of experience supporting families.
- The ideal candidate must possess knowledge of Indigenous history, culture, customs, and traditions, as well as an understanding of the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on Indigenous peoples.
- Knowledge of Youth Protection Act.
- Knowledge of the Quebec education system

- Good time management and organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
- Ability to meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
- Commitment, flexibility, and good problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of Montreal health and social services
- Knowledge of the Montreal Indigenous community is an asset.
- Computer proficient.
- Knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset.
- Understanding of Indigenous history, culture, customs, and traditions.
- Awareness of the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on Indigenous peoples.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to engage respectfully with Indigenous women and children.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required.
- Access to a vehicle and insurance is considered an asset, but not mandatory.
