The Role You'll design, develop, test, and maintain firmware for Levven's smart home products. This is bare-metal and RTOS firmware in C on 32-bit microcontrollers, driving real hardware — sub-GHz radio links, AC-mains switching electronics, low-power battery-operated switches, and sensors — in safety-certified devices used in people's homes.

Experience level

This role is calibrated for roughly 3–8 years writing production firmware in C on resource-constrained microcontrollers. We're counting the firmware years, not total years — a ten-year web developer and a one-year embedded developer will both find this a stretch.

This is probably not the right role if:

- Your embedded experience is mostly Raspberry Pi, Linux userspace, or Python on an SBC
- You're an application, web, or backend developer looking to transition to bare-metal firmware development
- You've worked on firmware teams but haven't personally owned a driver,



a peripheral bring-up, or a release
- You need remote or hybrid work — this role is in-office in south Edmonton

Outcomes

- Reliable, well-tested firmware that meets product requirements and quality standards
- Firmware releases delivered in alignment with product release schedules
- Explicit documentation of firmware interfaces, design decisions, and troubleshooting procedures
- Continuous improvement to development processes and tooling

Responsibilities

Technical Ownership:

- Own assigned firmware features or device areas from requirements through implementation, test, and release, including maintenance and field support
- Evaluate technical trade-offs and make recommendations on implementation approaches
- Participate in design and architecture reviews for firmware components and systems
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, and unknowns early and communicate them clearly
- Provide effort estimates for firmware work and contribute to project planning
- Recognize when a decision has broader or cross-product implications and involve senior technical staff
- Share knowledge with other engineers and contribute to improving team practices and tools

Development:

- Write, test, and maintain firmware using C on embedded platforms
- Implement peripheral drivers, hardware abstraction layers,



and communications interfaces
- Support board bring-up and validation alongside electrical engineers
- Debug complex hardware/firmware interactions using appropriate tools (debuggers, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers)
- Develop unit tests and integration tests to ensure code reliability and regression safety
- Contribute to firmware release processes including versioning, OTA update systems, and release qualification
- Support continuous integration pipelines and automated build/test workflows
- Create and maintain support tools and build infrastructure in Python
- Use the AI coding tools Levven provides to improve productivity, applying engineering judgment to validate, test, and own all generated output
- Create and maintain technical documentation covering firmware interfaces, integration points, update procedures, and troubleshooting

Collaboration:

- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers
- Work with electrical engineers, firmware engineers, and software developers to define and refine hardware/software interfaces
- Collaborate with QA, manufacturing/test, operations/support, and product management to plan releases, diagnose issues, and ensure smooth product launches
- Support resolution of field issues and customer-reported problems, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Assist manufacturing with production bring-up, test firmware, and troubleshooting documentation

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Pay: $80,000.00-$98,000.00 per year
