– Food Runner

Objective: To assist the expediter, when applicable, in communicating between the front and back of house while ensuring efficient and accurate delivery of all food items to customers. To be the final quality check of all items before they reach the customer.

Summary: The food runner works with the expediter to bring food to guests at table in a timely, professional manner.

Reports to: Front of house manager, Expeditor

Duties

- Deliver freshly prepared food from the kitchen to guest tables efficiently and accurately, ensuring presentation standards are met. Presenting it with confidence and a full understanding of the ingredients and cooking methods of each dish.
- Clear and reset tables promptly, maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout your shift.
- Assist servers with food presentation, refills, and guest requests to enhance overall service quality.
- Maintain cleanliness in dining areas, including sweeping, wiping down surfaces, and sanitizing tables and chairs regularly.
- Assist the expediter in maintaining cleanliness of the expo station.
- Cut pita and manage cut pita stock.
- Assist the dishwasher in restocking dishware.




- Assist the expediter in communicating messages throughout the restaurant.
- Understand seat numbers, when used, and present food to the proper guests accordingly.

Main Responsibilities and Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Customer Service: When interacting with customers, food runners must act in a respectful manner, communicating details about the food and process in a friendly, professional way.

Communication: Food runners must clearly communicate in a professional manner with guests, vendors, coworkers and management. They must understand instructions, read written company memorandums and communicate when needing more direction.

Interpersonal Relationships: A food runner must adapt to different personalities of guests and coworkers without losing focus. Extreme familiarity or conflicts with coworkers often weaken a team-oriented work environment.

Performing General Physical Activities: Food runners must perform physical activities in a variety of environmental conditions that require moderate strength including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling of materials. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to carry trays filled with multiple dishes and drinks.

Problem Solving and Conflict Management:



Must recognize a problem when it arises and be able to resolve it appropriately by using good judgement, tact and initiative according to company policy and procedure.

Language Skills: Must speak and write with excellent command of the English language including proper spelling and grammar.

Flexibility: Must assist the workload of others.

Experience

- Previous experience in food service or restaurant environments is preferred but not required; enthusiasm to learn is key!
- Robust customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests and team members.
- Familiarity with kitchen operations, food preparation, serving techniques, and food safety standards is a plus.
- Experience using POS systems like Micros POS or similar platforms for order entry and cashiering.
- Knowledge of hospitality practices gained through hotel or barista experience can be advantageous.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting while maintaining a positive attitude and excellent guest interaction skills.
