HEAD CARETAKER – St. Kateri Elementary School

We are looking to hire a continuous 35.0 hour per week Head Caretaker to work at St. Kateri Elementary School in Lethbridge. This assignment is to commence November 2, 2026. St. Kateri Elementary School is the newest addition to our Holy Spirit schools. It is a K-6 school on the west side of Lethbridge with a scheduled opening in the 2026/2027 school year. This position is covered by the CUPE 290 collective agreement.

The Individual

The Head Caretaker is responsible for providing and maintaining a safe and clean environment for their school and its community. The Head Caretaker supervises and trains Caretakers at their assigned school. The Head Caretaker demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of cleaning and general maintenance. The work may require strenuous physical effort to complete all duties alongside Caretakers. The Head Caretaker must be able to complete all work tasks to a high degree of satisfaction.

EDUCATION:

- High School Diploma;
- ABSA Class 5 Power Engineer (above or equivalent);
- First Aid certificate;
- WHMIS certificate;
- Hydraulic Ladder Training (Mobile Aerial Work Platform);
- Confined Space Entry and Rescue Training;
- Fall Protection Training;
- Ladder Safety Training.

WORK EXPERIENCE:





- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Caretaker.

TECHNICAL SKILLS (basic knowledge of):

- Effective computer skills (email, work orders);
- Commercial cleaning equipment and chemicals;
- Fire extinguisher use.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

- Effective communication skills;
- Mechanical aptitude;
- Effective supervisory and leadership skills;
- Strong self-directed initiative;
- Takes charge of assigned tasks;
- Requires minimal supervision.
