Yucwmenlúcwu (Caretakers of the Land) LLP is a full-service Heritage, Environmental, and Forestry resource management company based in Enderby, BC. We are a subsidiary of the Splatsin Development Corporation, an economic development corporation wholly owned by Splatsin. Our foundation of approach is “Caretakers of the Land.”

Current Opportunity: We're Hiring a Health & Safety Manager. The Health & Safety Manager owns the design, governance, and continuous improvement of the Health and Safety Management System; carries budget and resource responsibility for the program; represents the Company in regulatory, client, and WorkSafeBC matters; and provides leadership, mentorship, and performance oversight to safety staff, including the Safety Coordinator function, field technician check-in and communication protocols, and site safety audit programs.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position based at SDC’s head office, with regular travel to divisional work sites where construction, forestry, archaeology, and environmental crews operate.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Program Ownership (40%)

- Own the design, governance, and continuous improvement of the Company's Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System, including multi-year planning and budget development.
- Set health and safety policy direction and approve related procedures, safe work practices, and documentation, in consultation with the CEO and management team.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to the Safety Coordinator and any other safety staff
- Chair the Safety Committee, set strategic priorities, and report program performance, trends, and risk exposure to executive leadership.
- Lead emergency preparedness strategy, major incident response, and crisis management planning.
- Build and maintain relationships with WorkSafeBC,



regulators, insurers, and client health and safety representatives.

Compliance, Risk & Regulatory Oversight (25%)

- Ensure all Company safety registrations, certifications, licenses, and compliance requirements (including COR and client prequalification standards) remain current and audit-ready.
- Oversee incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, including final review and sign-off of WorkSafeBC documentation and reporting.
- Direct workplace inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments across office and field environments; approve corrective and preventive action plans.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory change and lead updates to Company programs to maintain compliance.
- Maintain organized, defensible health and safety records in accordance with regulatory and Company requirements.

Team Leadership, Training & Field Support (20%)

- Oversee delivery of new employee health and safety orientation and onboarding programs and audit training and certification compliance organization-wide.
- Provide on-site coaching, escalation support, and safety training to supervisors, crews, and the Safety Coordinator.
- Oversee field technician check-in protocols and safety communication systems, devices, and resources.
- Champion a positive safety culture through employee engagement, communication, and recognition initiatives.
- Manage vendor and supplier relationships for first aid supplies, emergency response equipment, and field safety kits.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement (15%)

- Compile and present health and safety performance reports, statistics, and compliance documentation to management, funders, and regulatory agencies.
- Track leading and lagging indicators; identify trends and lead root-cause analysis for recurring issues.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives and drive adoption of new tools, systems, and controls that improve safety outcomes and efficiency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.





Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety, including experience in a supervisory, coordinator-leading, or management capacity.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), or equivalent designation preferred, or actively working toward one.
- In-depth knowledge of BC occupational health and safety legislation, WorkSafeBC requirements, and industry best practices across forestry, construction, and environmental sectors.
- Demonstrated experience building or leading an OHS management system, including COR or equivalent audit experience.
- Experience leading incident investigations, workplace audits, and regulatory compliance programs.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and manage the performance of safety staff.
- Budget management and vendor/contract oversight experience.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and recordkeeping skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, safety databases, and PDF editing software.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to represent the Company to regulators, clients, and community.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment under pressure, and maintain confidentiality.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License and willingness to travel to worksites, including remote field locations, as required.
