Canadian Tire Corporation is looking for an HR Business Partner to join their team in Calgary, Alberta. This full-time role sits within the Retail HR function and is focused on delivering frontline employee relations support across a high-volume Corporate Retail Store population - a role where your people expertise directly shapes the day-to-day experience of employees and managers across the business.
This isn't a back-office generalist position. You'll be actively mediating workplace conflict, coaching District and Store Managers, and partnering with stakeholders to resolve complex people matters - all while bringing consistency, fairness, and an inclusive lens to every interaction. If you thrive in fast-paced, high-impact HR environments, this opportunity is worth a close look.
About the Role: HR Business Partner
Reporting to the Manager, HRBP Retail, the HR Business Partner serves as a trusted frontline resource for both employees and leaders. The core of this role is providing employee relations counsel — handling everything from corrective action and performance management to non-medical accommodation requests and workplace inquiries. You'll bring a deep working knowledge of HR disciplines to situations that go beyond what self-service tools can address.
Collaboration is central to how this role operates. You'll work closely with District Managers and Store Managers, helping them understand the implications of people-related decisions and guiding them toward outcomes that are equitable and legally sound. A strong grasp of the Employment Standards Act and the Canada Labour Code is essential, as is the ability to remain decisive and composed when navigating sensitive situations.
Benefits and Salary
Canadian Tire offers a competitive salary for this role. The typical hiring range is between $64,000 and $106,000 CAD annually, with a target salary range of $80,000 to $85,000 CAD annually, depending on experience, skills, and other factors. Employees also benefit from store discounts, the Canadian Tire Profit Sharing program, retirement and savings programs, and access to the Triangle Learning Academy for supported professional development. As part of the enhanced flex benefits program, mental health benefits of $5,000 per year are available for eligible employees and their families, along with total well-being tools and resources.
Responsibilities
As an HR Business Partner at Canadian Tire, your day-to-day work centres on resolving people-related matters with speed, consistency, and care. You'll act as a key advisor to retail leadership while ensuring employees receive fair, informed, and timely support on a wide range of HR issues.
- Mediate workplace conflicts between employees and leaders, working toward resolution and de-escalation in a timely manner
- Coach and consult District Managers and Store Managers on individual employee issues, corrective action, performance management, and terminations

- Identify options for business leaders and help them understand the potential outcomes of people-related decisions
- Support inquiries that go beyond what Employee Self Service (ESS) or Manager Self Service (MSS) tools can resolve
- Partner with stakeholders across diverse employee populations to deliver consistent and inclusive outcomes
Requirements / Skills
The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in human resources and has worked in a high-volume setting where quick, sound judgment is non-negotiable. Canadian Tire values professionals who can build genuine trust with business leaders while holding firm on HR best practices and legal compliance.
