About the Position

We are looking for a Junior Estimator with strong AI, internet research, and digital technology skills to join our construction team.

This position is ideal for someone who understands construction estimating but is also highly comfortable using AI tools, online research, digital takeoff software, spreadsheets, and emerging construction technology to find information, analyze drawings, identify opportunities, and improve the estimating process.

We are looking for someone who is technologically ahead of the curve and can use AI and internet-based tools to make estimating faster, more accurate, and more efficient.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with preparation of construction estimates, budgets, and quotations.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, addenda, and tender documents.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for concrete, civil, restoration, excavation, waterproofing, shoring, utilities, and related construction scopes.
- Obtain and analyze supplier and subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare RFQs and follow up with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Research construction materials, products, specifications, pricing, contractors, and project information online.
- Use AI tools such as ChatGPT and other emerging AI platforms to research, analyze, organize, and accelerate estimating tasks.
- Use AI to summarize tender documents, identify scope requirements, compare specifications, and assist with quantity and cost analysis.
- Search the internet effectively to find construction details, historical project information, material pricing, specifications, manufacturers, suppliers, subcontractors, and competitors.




- Help identify upcoming tenders and potential projects through online research.
- Maintain estimating spreadsheets, databases, and project information.
- Assist senior estimators with bid preparation and tender submissions.
- Identify discrepancies, missing information, and potential risks in tender documents.
- Track tender deadlines, addenda, RFIs, and submission requirements.
- Continuously research and test new AI and construction technology tools that can improve our estimating workflow.

Construction Experience

Experience in any of the following is an asset:

- Construction estimating

Candidates with strong construction knowledge but limited estimating experience may be considered if they demonstrate exceptional AI, research, analytical, and computer skills.

Qualifications

- 3 years of construction, estimating, project coordination, or related experience.
- Construction education, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, or a related field is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent internet research skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight tender deadlines.
- Valid driver's license is an asset.
