Miska Trailer Factory, which was established in 1994 is currently looking for an experienced Junior/Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer. Position Summary

Miska Trailers is seeking a Junior/Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, development, modification, and continuous improvement of trailers, trailer components, and related equipment. The successful candidate will use SolidWorks and practical mechanical engineering principles to create accurate, manufacturable designs and technical documentation. This role works closely with Engineering, Production, Sales, and Procurement and is suited to an early-career professional who is developing greater independence in mechanical design.

Key Responsibilities

· Create and revise 3D models, detailed drawings, assemblies, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using SolidWorks.

· Support the design and development of trailers, mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and related equipment.

· Develop designs from sketches, measurements, existing products, customer requirements, and verbal concepts, with guidance as required.

· Review drawings and designs for dimensional accuracy, materials, tolerances, functionality, completeness, and manufacturability.

· Apply mechanical engineering and design principles to evaluate design options and assist in developing practical solutions.

· Work with Production to ensure designs can be efficiently fabricated, welded, and assembled.

· Collaborate with Sales and other departments to support customer-specific trailer designs, modifications, and product improvements.

· Work with Procurement to identify appropriate materials and components required for assigned designs.

· Prepare and maintain Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), drawing revisions, BOMs, and related engineering documentation.

· Provide technical support to the shop floor, including clarification and interpretation of internal and customer drawings and specifications.





· Assist with investigating and resolving design or manufacturing issues identified during fabrication and assembly.

· Participate in prototype development, testing, design validation, and implementation of new or modified products.

· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to product quality, manufacturability, efficiency, and cost.

· Maintain accurate and organized engineering files, drawings, specifications, and revision records.

· Provide regular updates to the Engineering lead or management regarding assigned work, progress, priorities, and outstanding issues.

· Perform other related engineering and design duties as assigned.

Education

· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; or

· College diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or a related discipline.

Experience

· Up to 3 years of relevant mechanical design, engineering, co-op, internship, or manufacturing experience.

· Hands-on experience using SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software to create models and engineering drawings.

· Exposure to fabrication, welding, assembly, automotive, transportation equipment, or a similar manufacturing environment is an asset.

· Experience with Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Orders, drawing revisions, or engineering document control is an asset.

· Trailer design experience is beneficial but is not required.

Knowledge and Skills

· Foundational knowledge of mechanical design and engineering principles.

· Ability to read, interpret, and prepare technical drawings and specifications.

· Basic understanding of manufacturing, fabrication, welding, and assembly processes is an asset.

· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drawings, calculations, and documentation.

· Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with willingness to seek guidance when required.

· Ability to translate concepts and specifications into practical designs.

· Good organizational and time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple assigned priorities.





· Effective verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively with Engineering, Production, Sales, Procurement, and shop-floor employees.

· Willingness to learn and develop technical knowledge of trailer design and manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with SolidWorks in a manufacturing environment.

· Exposure to welded steel structures and fabricated components.

· Experience working directly with manufacturing or production teams.

· Exposure to custom or made-to-order manufacturing.

· Trailer, automotive, transportation equipment, agricultural equipment, or similar mechanical design experience.

Working Conditions

· Ability to sit and work on a computer for extended periods

· Some light physical work supporting merchandising and trailer displays

· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions when assisting customers with trailers

Pay: $68,000.00-$73,000.00 per year
