Your Opportunity:

Based out the WestView Hospital and Continuing Care Laboratory, the successful candidate will provide technical leadership in planning, organizing, teaching and managing quality services within the laboratory. Within this framework, duties will include monitoring daily processes and taking appropriate action to ensure expected services are delivered in a coordinated, consistent and timely manner. The Laboratory Technologist II will also be responsible for recognizing and resolving operational, technical, equipment and quality issues as well as recommending and justifying necessary/desired improvements in technical equipment protocols and personnel development. The Technologist II will be responsible for developing and maintaining standardized training and competency of staff and administering Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs. Supervision and leadership will be provided to a team of Laboratory Technologists and Laboratory Assistants.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Five years current experience in a related clinical laboratory is required. Minimum 2 year's experience in a Medical Laboratory Leadership role. Previous experience within the last year, with the EPIC (Beaker) Laboratory Information system and general computer applications is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Core Lab experience within the last five years is preferred. Experience in the following analyzers is preferred: ACL TOP 350, Ortho Diagnostics Vitros XT3400, Access II, Sysmex XNL-550 analyzer and Caresphere. Positive understanding of a variety of computer applications including Bio Rad Unity, Traccess, Microsoft office applications and Wellsky is preferred. Experience in a Suburban/Rural hospital site is an asset.
