Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced, versatile Lead Carpenter who takes pride in high-quality work and is interested in building a long-term career in construction.

Our projects range from architect-driven high-end private residences to restaurants, retail spaces, offices, millwork installations and complex commercial construction.

This position is ideal for a carpenter who is comfortable moving between detailed finish work and broader construction work, and who wants to develop beyond simply completing assigned tasks.

The right candidate will either already have experience leading other workers or have the ability and ambition to develop into a strong crew leader, Foreman and eventually Site Superintendent or Project Manager.

Requirements

Experience

- Approximately 5 years of relevant carpentry/construction experience
- Strong general and finish carpentry skills
- Experience with cabinetry and millwork installation
- Experience installing doors, hardware, trim and architectural finishes
- Experience with siding and exterior finishing
- Comfortable performing back-framing and complex installations
- Ability to read and work from architectural drawings, construction drawings and shop drawings
- Experience working in commercial, retail, office or high-end residential environments is an asset
- Crew leadership or supervisory experience is a strong asset

We are looking for a well-rounded carpenter, rather than someone whose experience is limited to one specialized area.

Tools

Candidates are expected to own, maintain and progressively build a professional personal tool kit appropriate for their position.

A complete tool collection is not necessarily required on the first day, but candidates should already own the core hand and power tools expected of an experienced carpenter and be willing to add additional tools as required.

The company supplies tool consumables.

Driver's Licence & Transportation

· Valid Ontario G driver's licence required

· Own reliable vehicle required

· Must be able to travel to jobsites throughout the Ottawa area

· Vehicle must be suitable for transporting personal tools and equipment as required





Safety & Certifications

- Working at Heights certification required
- WHMIS training required before commencing applicable work
- Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps required
- Strong understanding of safe tool operation and safe construction practices

Candidates must be comfortable working at heights, outdoors and in active construction environments when required.

& Responsibilities

As a Lead Carpenter, you will work independently and alongside other carpenters, apprentices, trades and Site Superintendents.

Responsibilities may include

- General and finish carpentry
- Cabinet and millwork installation
- Door, frame and hardware installation
- Trim and architectural finish installation
- Interior and exterior siding and panelling
- Back-framing and preparation for other trades
- Complex and custom installations
- Reading architectural drawings and shop drawings
- Planning work before beginning installation
- Coordinating your work with other trades
- Maintaining clean, organized and safe work areas
- Protecting finished surfaces and existing construction
- Identifying problems before they affect following trades
- Completing work within allocated labour hours and project schedules
- Maintaining a high standard of workmanship and quality control

As your responsibilities grow, the position will also involve:
- Leading small crews
- Training and developing less-experienced workers
- Planning construction sequences
- Coordinating handoffs between trades
- Helping build and maintain construction schedules
- Monitoring labour hours and productivity
- Reviewing completed work for quality before the next trade begins

Professional Jobsite Expectations

Many of our projects take place in high-end homes, finished commercial spaces, restaurants,



offices and other environments where care and attention are extremely important.

Our carpenters are expected to work carefully around finished surfaces, furnishings, equipment and other trades.

Organization, cleanliness, protection of existing work and respect for the client's property are considered part of the job not an afterthought.

We are looking for someone who is dependable, organized, safety-conscious and accountable for the quality of their work.

We have both in-house architectural/design capabilities and an in-house millwork operation, which gives our construction team exposure to projects from design through fabrication and installation.

Position Details

Pay: $38.00–$45.00 per hour, based on experience and capability

Candidates toward the upper end of the compensation range should demonstrate strong technical ability, versatility, leadership capability and the ability to take ownership of work from planning through completion.

Optional assets

- Elevated work platform / lift training is an asset
- First Aid certification is an asset
- Experience confidently driving a truck and trailer is an asset

Pay: $38.00-$45.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
