Pay rate: $38 to $50 per hour

Schedule: Primarily days, with on-call rotation

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Position Summary The Maintenance Lead is the senior hands-on technical authority on the floor, keeping Agrocrop packaging, process and utility equipment running safely, reliably and to food-safety standards. The role combines expert electro-mechanical and PLC troubleshooting with shift leadership, planned-maintenance discipline and continuous improvement.

Success means higher line OEE, shorter MTTR, fewer repeat failures, and a maintenance team that grows in capability rather than depending on one person.

Key responsibilities

Breakdown response and troubleshooting

- Lead response to line stoppages, diagnosing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control faults to restore production quickly and safely.
- Act as first escalation point for PLC, HMI, drive and servo issues before calling OEM support.




- Coordinate with Production, QA and Warehouse during breakdowns to protect food safety and schedule.

Planned and preventive maintenance

- Plan, schedule and verify PM, PdM and corrective work orders in the CMMS; close the loop on completion quality.
- Build and refine PM task lists for new and critical assets, using OEM manuals and failure history.
- Manage critical spares, min/max levels and parts obsolescence risk.

Reliability and continuous improvement

- Run root cause analysis (5-Why, fishbone, FMEA) on repeat and high-impact failures and track actions to closure.
- Drive TPM, autonomous maintenance and Kaizen activity with operators to lift OEE.
- Lead equipment modifications and controls upgrades under a formal Management of Change process.

Health, safety and food safety

- Enforce lockout/tagout, safe work permits, hot work and confined space practices for staff and contractors.
- Comply with OHSA, Regulation 851 (including PHSR requirements), HACCP, GMP and BRC expectations for maintenance work.
- Ensure food-safe practices during maintenance: tool control, hygienic clearance and allergen/foreign-material controls.

Team leadership

- Supervise and coach technicians on shift; assign work and balance workload.




- Develop technician skills through structured training, skill matrices and on-the-job coaching.
- Oversee contractors and service providers (for example boiler and refrigeration vendors) against scope and SLAs.

Projects and reporting

- Support capital projects through specification input, FAT/SAT, installation, commissioning and handover.
- Report downtime, MTTR, MTBF and PM compliance to the Maintenance Manager and operations leadership.
- Maintain drawings, PLC program backups and equipment documentation.

Required qualifications

- Ontario 309A Industrial Electrician licence, or 442A Industrial Engineer with strong electrical and controls capability (or an equivalent credential eligible for Ontario certification).
- Diploma or degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, Mechatronics or Automation Engineering Technology.
- 5+ years of maintenance in high-speed food, beverage or CPG manufacturing.
- Proven experience maintaining VFFS baggers, fillers and end-of-line packaging equipment.
- Experience maintaining Ready to Serve processing lines: fillers such as Packraft, retorts and CIP systems, with understanding of thermal-process and sanitation controls in food manufacturing.
- Strong working knowledge of pneumatics, conveyors, sensors and motor controls; able to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and P&IDs.;
- Experience with a CMMS and planned maintenance systems (MaintainX or similar).
- Structured root cause analysis and continuous improvement (TPM, Lean, Kaizen).
- Transparent communicator who can coach technicians and work across Production, QA and Warehouse.
