Manager Health Protection

Health Services – Public Health, Health Protection

Status: 1 Regular Full Time

Hiring Range: $120,401.00 – $135,451.00 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits, where applicable)

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Who We Are:

Peel Region Public Health works to protect and improve the health of residents through evidence-informed programs, health protection, emergency preparedness, and collaborative partnerships. The Health Protection Division leads strategic initiatives that address population health risks and ensures compliance with provincial standards and legislation.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Director, Health Protection, you will provide strategic leadership and direction to teams within the Health Protection Division. You will lead planning, implementation, evaluation, quality improvement, workforce development, and operational excellence initiatives to advance public health priorities and achieve positive population health outcomes.

What You Will Do:

- Establish strategic and operational goals, performance measures, and annual work plans.
- Lead development, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs.
- Drive continuous quality improvement and evidence-based decision making.
- Build partnerships with community organizations and government partners.
- Lead identification and analysis of health status and situational assessment data.
- Provide leadership during emergencies and urgent response activities.
- Manage budgets, resources, and operational performance.
- Hire, coach, mentor, and evaluate staff.
- Lead change management initiatives and workforce development.
- Act as a key liaison with senior leadership, Council, and community partners.

What The Role Requires:

- A Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration, or related discipline is preferred but not required.
- Certification from the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI)
- Bachelor degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive management experience including direct supervision in public health.
- Combination of education and experience will be considered.

Skills/Abilities:

- Expert knowledge of population health principles and public health programming.
- Strong strategic planning, project management, and change management expertise.
- Experience with performance measurement, program evaluation, and quality improvement.




- Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
- Excellent leadership, facilitation, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Politically astute with sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.

In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.

It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario.
