Overview

West Bay Shipyards, a yacht service and repair yard in Delta BC, is hiring a journeyman-level Marine Service Technician (or equivalent) to install, commission, service, and repair the mechanical systems aboard our clients' yachts. You will work alongside our project and production teams to get each yacht through sea trials and back to its owner.

Duties

- Install, align, and commission propulsion and mechanical systems, including engines, gears, shafting, and steering
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on yachts in service and repair
- Carry out scheduled maintenance, warranty work, and pre-delivery inspections
- Support sea trials and dockside commissioning, recording results and punch-list items
- Read and work from drawings, schematics, and manufacturer service manuals
- Track materials and labour against the project schedule and flag issues to the project team early
- Work safely and keep a clean, organized work area on the vessel and in the shop

Experience

- Journeyman certificate in Marine Service Technician, or equivalent years of experience
- A basic understanding of marine propulsion systems: diesel engines, marine gears and transmissions, shafting, stuffing boxes or shaft seals, propellers, and waterjets or pod drives
- A basic understanding of engine controls:



electronic engine control units, throttle and shift control systems, control stations and synchronization, and gauges, alarms and monitoring
- Working knowledge of hydraulic, cooling, fuel, and exhaust systems
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and schematics, and to use precision measuring and alignment tools
- Valuable written and verbal communication, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver's license and the ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and on and around the water
