Science World is a mission-based, charitable organization that supports the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Math) literacy across British Columbia. Our Science for All strategy is to revitalize Science World with a substantial capital plan to replace critical infrastructure, enhance the visitor experience and develop new content across all our channels under the themes of Regeneration of the Planet, Human Health, and Inclusion. Our plan is to ensure that people throughout British Columbia, especially under-represented communities, have access to high quality, informal STEAM learning. Through our onsite, online and outreach programs, Science World seeks to spark curiosity and wonder in STEAM and support development of talent across communities in the province.

Position Description:

Super Science Club is an award winning, innovative, and exciting community outreach program. For over 25 years, Super Science Club has enabled students facing barriers to discover, create and play through a series of weekly, after-school interactive STEAM programs, run directly from their schools. Super Science Club embodies Science World’s mission of Science for All and values building long-lasting positive relationships with children engaging with STEM.

As part of the Extracurricular Programs team, Outreach Facilitators, Super Science Club work closely with the Manager, Super Science Club and Lead Facilitator, Super Science Club. You will deliver STEAM-based programs and demonstrations in a workshop-style setting and facilitate fantastic Science World experiences. You will also be responsible for the shared supervision of a group of up to 20 elementary students,



with a co-leader and possible youth volunteers.

As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months. Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings. Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs, and this may include special events on evenings, weekends and holidays.

Time Commitment:

This is a part-time position requiring 8 to 12 hours per week while school is in session (October 2026 –June 2027). Each 4-hour shift is from 1:30pm-5:30pm and the program runs Tuesday to Thursday. Facilitators will be scheduled on regular recurring days each term.

At this time we are recruiting for people to work at select schools in the Vancouver School Board (VSB). Shift locations will vary by term and include training and preparatory sessions that take place at Science World.

Note: Super Science Club does not run during school holiday breaks/closures, and no shifts will occur at these times (e.g., Spring Break, Winter Break and District Professional Development days).

Responsibilities:

- Learn and deliver a series of themed workshops and activities. Contribute your own style and ideas to enhance existing programming
- Work with a co-leader and volunteers as a cohesive team
- Manage and supervise groups of up to 20 children per session through various activities
- Exercise good judgement in independently managing minor behaviour/welfare concerns and escalating when appropriate
- Deliver scientific concepts in a clear, concise manner
- Lead various science activities and group games
- Prepare, clean-up and restock all materials and resources required to deliver the program




- Ensure the safety of the participants by enforcing safety rules and regulations
- Follow the rules and regulations of the schools in which the program operates
- Operate within the philosophy, culture and values of Science World
- Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role

Qualifications:

- Must be an engaged, responsive and respectful team player capable of working in a dynamic team environment
- Must be organized, self-motivated, flexible, and responsible
- Must possess a keen interest in science and hands-on learning
- Experience working with children
- Experience working with the public; excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- A minimum of a high school diploma, some post-secondary education preferred
- Satisfactory completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check will be required
- Must be able to safely lift 12kg (moving of workshop and gallery materials)
- Preference given to applicants who possess a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license. Successful candidates will be asked to provide a current and clean driver’s abstract for examination and approval
- Current first aid certificate with CPR-C and AED, or willingness to obtain one, is considered an asset

This is a unionized position represented by CUPE 1004. The compensation rate is $23.16/hour. After successfully completing probation, will be eligible to join the Voluntary RRSP/TFSA Plan and receive paid time off (sick, wellness days).
