Reporting to the Director of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, the Policy Advisor, ISV (Inuit Societal Values) is responsible for establishing a policy framework, a set of Inuit Societal Values, Guidelines, Action Plans and a performance measurement and evaluation system for a current Government of Nunavut “Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit” and for furthering ISV in the public service.

The Policy

Advisor, ISV collaborates regularly with senior management and staff from within Department of Culture and Heritage, other departments and agencies to ensure the smooth flow of information to contribute effectively to the implementation of Iviqtippalliajut Framework.

The Policy Advisor, ISV, will also be responsible for:

- Working closely with the Policy and Planning division.
- Conducting research on ISV issues to gain a better realization of Inuit culture, tradition, regional and community diversity.
- Identifying the main components of a comprehensive policy representing the Government's stated position on ISV.
- Working closely with Senior Management to integrate changes to departmental operations, programs and services, including its Grants and Contributions program to better reflect Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) & ISV.
- Providing administrative and logistical support to the IQ division by taking meeting minutes and distributing information.
- Providing mentorship to the two advisors by sharing knowledge on the implementation of IQ and ISV.




- Working with the principle and vision of Iviqtippalliajut and Tuttarviit respectively.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized:
- Degree in social sciences, Inuit or Aboriginal studies, business administration, or a related field
- Three (3) years of continuous experience in areas such as:
- Government or public‑sector work
- Strategic and operational planning
- Program evaluation and research
- Policy development
- Information technology or information systems
- Communications or business planning
- Inuit or Aboriginal studies

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in Inuktitut is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktitut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets. Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
