Priva Technician, 309A or 442A Journeyperson

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and technically minded Priva Technician to support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of our greenhouse automation and environmental control systems.

The Priva Technician plays an important role in ensuring that greenhouse climate, irrigation, electrical, instrumentation, and computer-controlled systems operate reliably and efficiently. This position is well suited to someone with experience in greenhouse operations, electrical systems, automation, controls, irrigation, or industrial maintenance.

Priva experience is considered an asset. Candidates with a strong technical background and an interest in learning greenhouse automation are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Greenhouse Systems & Construction

- Develop a solid understanding of commercial greenhouse construction and how the various systems work together.
- Understand greenhouse components including heating systems, ventilation, screens, fans, windows, irrigation, lighting, CO₂ systems, and environmental controls.
- Assist with the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of greenhouse equipment and automated systems.
- Identify mechanical, electrical, and control-system issues that may affect greenhouse production.
- Work closely with greenhouse operations and maintenance teams to resolve equipment and system problems.
- Support modifications and upgrades to greenhouse systems as required.

Greenhouse Climate Control
- Monitor and maintain automated greenhouse climate-control systems.
- Understand how temperature, humidity, light, CO₂, ventilation, heating, and other environmental conditions affect plant growth.
- Troubleshoot climate-control equipment, sensors, actuators, motors, valves, fans, vents, screens, and other related components.
- Assist with programming and adjusting environmental control settings under the direction of the appropriate management team.
- Respond to system alarms and investigate the cause of equipment or environmental deviations.
- Help ensure climate-control systems are operating efficiently and consistently.

Electrical Systems
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and maintenance within the scope of training, qualifications, and applicable regulations.
- Understand electrical control panels, relays, contactors, motors, breakers, wiring, and control circuits.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues associated with greenhouse equipment and automation systems.
- Assist electricians and other qualified tradespeople with larger electrical projects when required.




- Follow all applicable electrical, workplace safety, and lockout/tagout procedures.

Computers, Controls & Networking
- Use computers and software to monitor and troubleshoot greenhouse control systems.
- Understand basic computer hardware, operating systems, networks, and communication systems.
- Troubleshoot communication issues between computers, controllers, sensors, and field equipment.
- Maintain and organize system documentation, backups, configuration information, and technical records.
- Learn and support software used for greenhouse automation, monitoring, data collection, and reporting.

Priva Automation Systems
- Learn and support Priva greenhouse climate and process-control systems.
- Monitor system performance and respond to alarms and faults.
- Assist with troubleshooting controllers, sensors, communication networks, software, and connected equipment.
- Support system configuration, testing, and commissioning as experience develops.
- Work with management and greenhouse staff to identify opportunities to improve system reliability and performance.

Health & Safety
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, and all company health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
- Properly use and maintain required personal protective equipment and safety equipment.
- Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries, and near misses immediately.
- Follow all applicable safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, and other job-specific safe work practices.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and operate tools and equipment safely.
- Participate in required health and safety training and cooperate in maintaining a safe workplace.
- Exercise due diligence to protect the health and safety of yourself and others while performing assigned duties.

Working Conditions The successful candidate must be able to:
- Work is primarily performed in a greenhouse environment.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Work at heights using appropriate fall protection equipment.
- Stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.
- Use personal protective equipment as required.
- Work is primarily performed in a commercial greenhouse environment.




- Exposure to warm temperatures, high humidity, water, dust, and agricultural production activities.
- Work around pumps, motors, fans, electrical equipment, irrigation systems, and automated machinery.
- May require weekend and after-hours work as part of an on-call rotation.
- May require responding to emergency calls outside of regular working hours.
- Must follow all workplace health and safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.

Employment Requirements

Employment is conditional upon

- Being legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Maintaining a valid Ontario Class G driver's licence throughout employment.
- Remaining bondable.
- Complying with all company policies, including health and safety requirements.

Compensation
- Hourly rate (range from $36.00 - $42.00 per hour).
