Marcon Metalfab is looking for an organized and proactive Purchasing Specialist to join our team in Delta, BC.

This is a hands-on purchasing role supporting our steel fabrication and manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for ensuring the materials needed for our projects are purchased accurately, competitively, and on time to support production schedules and customer commitments.

The right person for this role understands that purchasing in a manufacturing environment requires more than issuing purchase orders. You’ll need to stay ahead of material requirements, understand project and production priorities, follow up closely with suppliers, and quickly address issues that could affect the shop schedule.

What You’ll Do

- Purchase steel, materials, supplies, and other items required for customer projects and manufacturing operations.
- Prepare and issue detailed purchase orders within an electronic production environment.
- Review approved Shop Issue drawings and purchase required materials based on project specifications and schedules.
- Read and interpret fabrication and engineering drawings to identify purchasing requirements.
- Prioritize purchasing activities based on project due dates, production requirements, and Project Manager priorities.
- Confirm supplier lead times and expected delivery dates and communicate this information to downstream production teams.
- Monitor open purchase orders and expedite materials when required to prevent production delays.
- Work closely with Production, Shipping & Receiving, Quality Control, and Project Management to resolve material and purchasing issues.
- Respond to purchasing inquiries from shop and production personnel.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations based on price, availability, delivery, quality, service, and historical performance.
- Negotiate pricing and terms while maintaining strong supplier relationships.
- Monitor material pricing and communicate significant changes that may affect projects or production.
- Resolve incorrect, damaged, late, or non-conforming material issues, including related credits and payment discrepancies.
- Work with Quality Control to address mill certificate/material traceability requirements,



product quality concerns, and supplier compliance issues.
- Support supplier performance reviews and annual audits of key suppliers.
- Identify opportunities to improve purchasing, material flow, cost control, and supplier performance.

What You Bring

- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in purchasing, supply chain, business, or a related field is an asset.
- Previous purchasing or procurement experience, ideally within steel fabrication, manufacturing, construction, or another industrial workplace.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication and engineering drawings.
- Working knowledge of purchasing and procurement practices.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple jobs, priorities, and deadlines at the same time.
- Strong supplier negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- Excellent follow-up skills and the ability to identify potential problems before they affect production.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Experience working with ERP, accounting, or electronic purchasing/production systems is an asset.
- Experience with structural steel, material specifications, mill certificates, or material traceability is a strong asset.

What Success Looks Like You know what materials are required, what has been ordered, when it is expected to arrive, and where potential problems exist.

You are comfortable following up with suppliers, asking questions, negotiating when appropriate, and escalating concerns before they become production issues. You understand that an incorrect or late material order can have a significant downstream impact, and you take ownership of getting it right.

You also build strong working relationships—with suppliers and with the Production, Quality, Shipping/Receiving, and Project Management teams that rely on Purchasing every day.
