City of Hamilton located at Hamilton, Ontario is currently accepting applications for the position of Receiver/Cleaner. The company is looking for a motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills who is ready to start as soon as possible. This is a permanent full-time position.

Location: Hamilton, Ontario

- The candidate will be responsible for receiving, inspecting, delivering, and storing supplies and materials, including food orders, while following established receiving procedures and monitoring inventory levels.
- The candidate will be responsible for receiving and distributing continence products according to established quotas and procedures.

- The candidate will be responsible for storing items and supplies for various departments as required.
- The candidate will be responsible for storing food service deliveries according to established storage protocols and procedures.
- The candidate will be responsible for collecting and disposing of waste and recycling materials while cleaning and disinfecting containers.

- The candidate will be responsible for completing vacancy cleaning duties according to established standards and procedures.
- The candidate will be responsible for completing all resident transfers and assisting families with receiving and transporting residents’ furniture and belongings as required.
- The candidate will be responsible for operating cleaning equipment, including scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet and furniture cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, can washers, and pressure washers.

- The candidate will be responsible for collecting heavy garbage, disposing of waste in designated bins, and separating recyclable materials.
- The candidate will be responsible for removing debris and sweeping parking lots, patios, and balconies.
- The candidate will be responsible for dry and wet mopping floors and placing caution signs to ensure safe working conditions.

- The candidate will be responsible for moving, dismantling, and relocating large furniture and equipment, including hospital beds, filing cabinets, lockers, scaffolding, and desks.




- The candidate must be able to read and interpret work orders and floor plans to coordinate setups for special meetings and functions.
- The candidate will be responsible for setting up and clearing the Atrium for special events and activities.

- The candidate will be responsible for removing and re-hanging draperies and privacy curtains as required.
- The candidate will be responsible for checking and restocking the bar room refrigerator as required.
- The candidate will be responsible for identifying and reporting maintenance deficiencies and facility concerns.

- The candidate will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining walls, doors, light fixtures, ceilings, windows, wheelchairs, kitchen mats, and stove hoods using appropriate cleaners and chemicals.
- The candidate will be responsible for treating and spraying furniture to control and eliminate insects.
- The candidate will be responsible for operating power sprayers and completing floor care duties, including stripping, machine washing, refinishing, and buffing floors.

- The candidate will be responsible for vacuuming and shampooing carpets and furniture to maintain cleanliness standards.
- The candidate will be responsible for receiving and responding to inquiries from staff, residents, and suppliers in a qualified manner.
- The candidate will be responsible for maintaining safe entrances and walkways by sweeping, sanding, salting, and shovelling as required.

- The candidate will be responsible for responding to emergency evacuations and safely transporting able and disabled persons as required.
- The candidate must work in accordance with applicable Health and Safety legislation and follow all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.




- The candidate will be responsible for performing other assigned duties that are directly related to the primary responsibilities of the position.

Job Requirements

- The candidate must possess previous cleaning experience gained through a combination of relevant education and work experience within a health-care environment.

- The candidate with previous receiving experience will be considered an asset.
- The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of inventory control procedures for managing various supplies and products.
- The candidate must possess working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS data sheets related to cleaning products.

- The candidate must demonstrate the ability to safely operate cleaning equipment, including auto scrubbing machines, buffers, carpet and furniture cleaners, pressure washers, and can washers.
- The candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly and maintain respectful working relationships with peers and seniors in a Long-Term Care facility.
- The candidate must demonstrate the ability to build positive working relationships with individuals both within and outside the Lodges.

- The candidate must be able to read and interpret work orders and floor plans to support special meetings and functions.
- The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- The candidate must demonstrate the ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

Security and safety

- The candidate must obtain a satisfactory Criminal Reference Check or Vulnerable Sector Screening, at their own expense, before beginning work in this position.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

- The candidate must be physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 20 kg and applying pushing and pulling force of up to 20 kg as required.

- The candidate must be physically capable of safely moving hospital beds, 95-gallon recycling totes, filing cabinets, specialty mattresses, and desks.
- The candidate will be required to work between 0 and 24 hours per week, based on operational requirements.
