The South Health Campus SHC Addictions and Mental health Program is a group of dynamic multidisciplinary teams that work together to ensure our patients have the best standard of care and experience. This site has two Adult Inpatient units, a general psychiatry Unit 56 B and a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) -Unit 56 C. As a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN)/ Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) on both Units 56 B and C you have a pivotal role as an integral member of our multidisciplinary healthcare team. Focused on in-patient acute psychiatric nursing, you will engage in collaborative efforts to provide holistic and comprehensive care, addressing the diverse needs of individuals, families, and communities. In this position, you will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop a robust plan of care to stabilize patients suffering from acute psychiatric illness. Your responsibilities include delivering targeted interventions, with an awareness of evaluation to modify approaches based on evolving patient needs. Your scope of practice will encompass physical and mental status assessments, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution. Additionally, you will engage in discharge planning that promotes, maintains, and restores mental health, while preventing mental illness injury, and disability. As a Registered Nurse (RN),



you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide secure, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program.



Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience working in an acute care inpatient psychiatric unit within the last 2 years consistently or with an FTE. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship on an acute care inpatient psychiatric unit may be considered. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques required.

Working

Knowledge of Psychotropic medications required.

Experience in AMH assessment tools including but not limited to the Mental Status examination.

Experience in various risk assessments including suicide risk assessment (SRA) and the Dynamic Appraisal of Situational Aggression (DASA). Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced and high intensity environment under pressure and handle competing priorities. Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric assessment, medical assessment and crisis intervention.

Additionally, must have familiarity of the expectations of medical capabilities within mental health and be able to provide treatment as directed, assess potential difficulties, and respond to medical emergencies. Demonstrated organizational and clinical skills in addition to being self-directed and able to work collaboratively in a team environment required. Ability to lift, push, and pull less than 50lbs (ie stretcher's, restraints).

Ability to provide direct patient care (ie take patient assignment, engage in 1:1’s with patients).

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) preferred. Recent nursing experience in an acute in-patient psychiatric setting is preferred. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone preferred. Knowledge of trauma-informed care is preferred.
