Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) — Family Practice / Walk-In Clinic

Reports to: Family Physician / Clinic Manager

Status: Full-time / Part-time

Summary The RPN supports the family physician(s) in delivering care to scheduled and walk-in patients, managing patient flow, and performing clinical and administrative tasks within the RPN scope of practice as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

- Room patients, take and document vitals (BP, HR, temp, O₂ sat, weight/height, BMI)
- Take brief history and chief complaint; prepare patient and chart for physician
- Administer injections (immunizations, B12, Depo, etc.), TB skin tests, and medications per order
- Perform ear syringing, wound care and dressing changes, suture/staple removal
- Assist with minor procedures (biopsies, cryotherapy, IUD insertions, PAPs)
- Collect specimens (swabs, urine, bloodwork where applicable), perform point-of-care testing (ECG, glucometer, urine dip, spirometry)
- Reinforce physician instructions and patient education

Clinic Operations

- Manage patient flow between waiting room, exam rooms, and physician




- Prepare and stock exam rooms; ensure supplies and equipment are ready
- Clean and sterilize instruments; follow IPAC (infection prevention and control) standards
- Monitor and log fridge temperatures; manage vaccine/medication inventory and expiry

Administrative

- Document accurately in the EMR (Advantage EMR)
- Handle prescription renewal requests, lab/imaging requisitions, and referrals under physician direction
- Follow up on abnormal results and recall patients as directed
- Respond to patient calls and messages within scope

Qualifications
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (RPN)
- Diploma in Practical Nursing
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- EMR experience (an asset)
- Immunization competency / injection certification
- Strong communication skills; bilingual an asset

Pay: $18.00-$28.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
