Nipissing Serenity Hospice is currently accepting applications for casual Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), primarily to cover night shifts.

Nipissing Serenity Hospice is a 10-bed, bilingual residential hospice located in North Bay, Ontario, serving residents of the Nipissing and East Parry Sound Districts. The Hospice provides around-the-clock palliative and end-of-life care through an expert, multidisciplinary team in a peaceful, home-like setting for people of all ages. Support is also extended to caregivers and families.

Position Summary

This position will appeal to a dynamic and experienced regulated healthcare professional who values hospice palliative care and is eager to contribute to a growing organization and collaborative team.

Reporting to the Manager of Hospice Services, the RN/RPN will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide professional, evidence-informed, person-centred care to individuals residing at the Hospice.

The RN/RPN will demonstrate a holistic and ethical approach in interactions with residents, families and colleagues and will exercise sound clinical judgment based on education, experience, knowledge and scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities The RN/RPN will:

- Provide safe, compassionate and evidence-informed palliative and end-of-life care to residents in accordance with individualized care plans, qualified standards and Hospice policies and procedures.
- Assess, monitor and respond to changes in residents' conditions and care needs.
- Collaborate with physicians, PSWs and other members of the interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, evaluate and adjust resident care.
- Provide support, education and communication to residents and families.
- Advocate for residents' rights, preferences, dignity, autonomy and self-determination.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, colleagues, volunteers and external healthcare providers.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and the ongoing development of hospice services.
- Participate in mandatory education, training and in-services related to clinical skills, self-care,



teamwork and current best practices.
- Maintain professional competence through ongoing learning and reflective practice.

Position Requirements The successful candidate will have:

- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as an RN or RPN.
- A demonstrated commitment to continuous professional learning and development.
- Demonstrated competence in nursing knowledge, critical thinking and technical skills, with a particular interest in or knowledge of hospice palliative care.
- A commitment to maintaining and improving the quality of practice in accordance with CNO standards and reflective practice requirements.
- A caring, compassionate and ethical approach when interacting with residents, families and colleagues.
- A commitment to providing inclusive and culturally respectful care while maintaining privacy, confidentiality and dignity.
- A minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in hospice palliative care.
- Preference may be given to candidates who have completed LEAP, Fundamentals of Palliative Care, or equivalent palliative care education.
- Demonstrated person-centred approach to care and the ability to effectively support and communicate with families.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated computer skills and the ability to use electronic documentation systems.
- The ability to work effectively with internal and external healthcare providers and community partners.
- The ability and willingness to work a variety of 12-hour shifts, primarily nights, including flexibility to respond to scheduling changes and pick up shifts on short notice.




- The physical and emotional ability to provide personal and clinical care to residents in a palliative care environment.
- A commitment to resident, staff and workplace safety and evidence-informed best practices.
- A satisfactory Police Record Check, as required.
- Effective bilingual English/French communication skills, both verbal and written, are considered an asset.

Scheduling This is a casual position. Casual employees do not have a set schedule and have the opportunity to create their own schedule based on their availability and the shifts available at Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

The primary need for this position is night-shift coverage, although successful candidates may be required to work a variety of 12-hour shifts based on operational needs.

Compensation

- Registered Practical Nurse (RPN): Starting wage of $29.00 per hour
- Registered Nurse (RN): Starting wage of $36.00 per hour

Wage placement may be negotiated based on relevant education, qualifications and demonstrated experience.
