Build Skills While Inspiring Children as a STEAM/Recreation Teacher! Join LiftED as a STEAM/Recreation Teacher and gain hands-on experience in leading engaging, hands-on activities that inspire creativity, teamwork, and curiosity. From robotics and physical literacy to STEAM workshops tailored to students in Grades SK–6, you’ll plan and deliver cutting-edge programming that complements literacy goals while enhancing your teaching and facilitation skills.

- Driftwood Public School
- Rose Avenue Jr. Public School
- Woburn Jr. Public School (St. Thomas More for March Break Math Literacy)
- Thorncliffe Park P.S.

Dates and Times:

Saturday Morning Literacy Club -Fall Term: October 5 – December 13, 2025; Winter/Spring Term (10 weeks): February 7 - May 9, 2026 (No Program Oct 11, Feb 14, Mar 14, 21, April 4)

- Saturdays 9:30am - 12:30pm (teachers on site from 9:00am - 1:00pm)
- Compensation: $1,500 contract

LiftED empowers and supports youth to develop skills, competencies, and confidence through: educational support, leadership initiatives, and partnerships. LiftED programs inspire youth to overcome barriers, unlock their potential and contribute to their communities. We support children and youth who are born into challenging economic circumstances by providing fully-subsidized literacy and leadership programs. Our programs ignite, accelerate and provide a bridge to academic and personal success. Duties and Responsibilities, but not limited to:

- Attend the pre-program planning session and staff meetings during the term.




- Plan and implement physical literacy-based and STEAM programming for one primary (grades 1-3: 1.5 hours for SMLC and 3 hours for March Break) and one junior group (grades 4-6: 1.5 hours for SMLC and 3 hours for March Break) aligned to program goals and student interest. This programming includes a variety of activities related to STEAM, physical education, and workshops that compliment the curriculum content.
- Prior to the program, plan the workshops in collaboration with the Site Director.
- Work with student volunteers to establish appropriate teaching assistance and supervision.
- Implement positive, safe routines and procedures.
- Contribute to building a welcoming, engaging, and empowering program culture for all participants and colleagues.
- Adhere to and sign the LiftED policies.
- Complete the end-of-the-program survey.
- Must attend at least 80% of scheduled sessions.

Qualifications

- Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) Certification required
- 1-3 years experience as a teacher
- Experience with STEAM activities such as Dash and Dot robotics
- Experience leading groups of children in recreational activities (physical activity)
- Strong passion for and commitment to supporting children and youth
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, encourage youth involved in after-school programs
- Enthusiastic, fun, and creative approach to teaching
- Experience working with diverse populations, including multicultural and underserved communities
- Provide an updated vulnerable sector police check prior to the start of the program
- Local knowledge of the community in which the program is run would be an asset
