Strategic Data Analyst, College of Arts and Science

Primary Purpose: The Strategic Data Analyst will assist with reporting and analysis of strategic initiatives, collegial processes, and special projects in support of the College of Arts and Science’s operational processes and strategic priorities. The Strategic Data Analyst will provide analytical expertise to support the development and implementation of evaluative processes within the College of Arts and Science that are necessary for quality improvement and efficiency. The incumbent will provide specialized expertise to support the measurement, evaluation, and reporting of college performance in areas such as faculty activity, financial capacity, and academic programming. The incumbent will support the office of the Dean, senior leadership and professional staff within the Dean’s Office and other stakeholders as determined by the Dean. Nature of Work: Reporting to the Dean, the Strategic Data Analyst works in collaboration with the professional staff within the Dean’s Office as well as units across the University of Saskatchewan. Establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships that support collaboration and problem solving are essential for success in this position. The incumbent will play an integral role in the acquisition, analysis, and dissemination of quantitative and qualitative information in support of college strategic planning and decision-making. The incumbent will be involved in a wide variety of projects requiring assimilation and interpretation of data associated with areas of priority for the college.

Responsibilities include data gathering, analyzing trends, testing processes/outputs, and developing reports.

The Strategic Data Analyst will be involved in many projects and initiatives that will be confidential in nature and/or have broad impact across the college. The work is executed in a timely and efficient manner; working under pressure in a quick paced and changing environment, balancing priorities, and competing deadlines. The position routinely works with highly confidential and sensitive content such as information pertaining to the college budgets and salaries, as well as data relating to the college complement plan.

Because of this, the position requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and independent judgement.

Accountabilities:

- Produces substantiated recommendations and reports to the Dean and/or senior leadership in supporting strategic initiatives, special projects, operational efficiencies, and potential strategies involving sensitive and confidential information.
- Identifies,



leverages and interprets institutional data sources, patterns and trend analysis that support evidence informed decision making consistency, and accuracy of internal and external reporting requirements in the college.
- Summarizes and communicates analytical findings, insights, and recommendations via executive-level written reports, briefing notes, and presentations to support evidence informed decision-making to the Dean and senior leadership.
- Provides accurate, clear, and concise communications and reports in an appropriately consumable format for the Dean and senior leadership.
- Supports the Dean and senior leadership in the development and/or implementation of strategic enrolment management, activity cost analysis, and employee complement planning processes and reporting.
- Engages in special projects or reviews, many of which are very confidential in nature, at the request of the Dean
- Applies well developed project management skills to accomplish goals in a timely manner with attention to detail and sensitivity to competing deadlines and priority levels.
- Promotes a healthy, respectful, collegial, and productive work environment within the office and in interactions with campus and external stakeholders.
- Performs other related duties or projects as required.

Education:

An undergraduate degree is required. Training in data analytics, qualitative and quantitative research methods, or relevant professional training pertaining to business analysis and/or data analytics would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience: Five to seven years of professional experience with data analytics, data modeling, and strategic/business analysis is required.

Experience in the ability to interpret and present information to stakeholders through written, graphical, or verbal methods is essential. The ability to think creatively, identify innovative solutions to solve problems, work independently or as part of a team, develop and implement projects that achieve expected outcomes, and produce high-quality work in an accurate and timely manner are vital to the success of the incumbent in this role. A high level of proficiency with statistical and data manipulation tools such as Excel,



Microsoft Power BI, and SPSS, preferred.

Skills: Highly organized with clear and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently, collaboratively and within a team environment; competency in determining information needs, identifying sources of information, analyzing data, and communicating findings various audiences; strong research and problem solving skills; proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; demonstrated proficiency with contemporary data management and analysis tools; and ability to exercise diplomacy, implement creativity, foster self-motivation, and awareness of how to handle highly confidential information.

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $87,266.00 - 145,353.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
